Default Is protection plan on Big Screen TV worth it??

Thinking about buying a DLP TV from Circuit City and was wondering if you guys think the "protection plan" is worth it??? It's $289 for 2 years and $499 for 4 years....
Seems like a lot of money for something you would think would last at least 4 years....

I would get it all it takes is one blast of lightning and it's toast. My bro in law did not and had lightning hit his. He is now watching a 24 inch table model.

Get it, 400-500 is A LOT less than another 2000+ big screen dlp. You never know, a button could mess, a connection could mess up. Its always worth it. Would you buy a new car with no warranty?

Yeah it's worth it; if for some odd chance that something happens to the picture just out of the manufacturer's warranty it will be so expensive to fix that you would probably be better off buying a new tv. Think of it as insurance-sucks to pay for but great to have if/when something goes wrong !

No. I had bad luck with those "service warranties". They'll find away to weasel out of honoring it. 95% of the time you won't even need it. If you think about it realistically, do you think they would sell you the warranty if it really saves you money? They make alot of their profit off of those ripoff warranites. If you do get a warranty, make sure it is in writing and is very explicit (which they probably won't do).

they did a study on this and found out the extended warranties are not worth it. something about how long electronics are lasting compared to a while ago. i didnt really read the article because it was more than a page long.

That's why some state...if they can't repair it, they replace it.

I used to work for best buy and circuit city and frys....

Its a waste of money and the people who sell it to you know that. Put a surge protector on the tv for $50 bucks and call it a day.

I would NOT buy the protection plan, I would apply that cash to a very nice monster power/surge protector and plug in all your electronics to it. Monster will cover up to 100,000+ if something goes out...Better warranty IMO...

Absolutely! My family works in the TV repair business. We do warranty/customer pay repairs daily. When something breaks on a $1K+ TV the last thing you want to do is pay for a repair bill. If your gonna spend the money you need to protect your investment. We have plently of wise guy lawyer, tax auditors, insurance sales people, drug dealers, ect. TV/Stereo equipement in our home that we fixed for next to nothing at our cost but the customer did the math and just left it at our shop as it made more sense to go purchase another set than to have us fix/replace the broken one. They also had to pay us just for looking at the damn thing. THINK ABOUT IT!? Do you want to be the next guy to flush money down the toilet because you wanted to take your chances? IF so thanks for the business. See your TV soon...VERY soon!

my sony 38" flat panel was purchased in 1995. just dont buy crap and it will last. most of the time those warranties only give you like one year past the manufacturers warranty anyway. like the xbox 360, $50 for the circuit city warranty for three years, microsoft does a three year warranty against the three flashing lights. the three lights is what always happens to these things. yet some idiot will still spend the $50.

I have a big screen and it has broke 3 times and everytime they send someone out and it is fixed... no questions.. If I did not buy the warranty it would have cost me about 1100 bucks. It is really worth it

it is always an option to buy one. but you also have to remember on dlp tv's if a bulb/bulbs go out, they are expensive to replace! i bought a 61 samsung last yr and i bought the extended warranty just for peace of mind.

surge protectors doesn't prevent dead pixels or burnt lines and when i worked at Comp USA the MAIN reason ppl brought their tv's to the tech shop so we could look at them was because of dead pixels

If you buy the warranty does it cover burned out bulbs on the DLP TV's?
