so I need a car jack

edit...mods feel free to move this to the tool forum, I am an idiot.

I don't have a clue what to get, or if I should go somewhere or get one online. I never needed one when I lived at my parents house since my dad had a bunch...and I just never got around to buying one. So I'm sick of driving back to my parents' house to work on my car, so I need to get something.

Looks like you should not pick up a car jack made by Craftsman/from Sears.

Get the slimmest and lowest clearence jack possible. My regular Harbor Freight jack doesn't fit under the front of my car, and its the stock ride height.

I've got this yellow and black craftsman jack from sears that came with 2 jackstands. It won't fit under my k-member, but I have some ramps built to drive the car on first.

The highspeed valve USED to work, but my uncle took it to the junkyard searching for some dirttrack car parts, and it never worked again. Anybody know anything about this? It only gets really annoying when I jack my car up, put it on stands, roll jack out (only lowering it like .5"), and one of my jackass friends lets it all the way down.

Cobalt 3 ton is a pretty good jack. Decent clearance, fits under my scoob, one pump to seat, no problems yet.

I was looking at that one, Lowes has it for $70 with 2 jackstands. It all looks beefy in the picture.

It is...the sucker weights at least 50 lbs. The welds look good on it too, casters work exceptionally well. It was an x-mas gift. Twist handle release, so no pulling out the pump to let it down. Just make sure you're careful letting it down with the handle all the way up as it might get your rocker pannels.

i really like my powerbuilt 3 ton.. it was used by our warehouse guy for 10yrs to work on 1ton work vans, and i use it all the time at my house, never had a problem, it's built like a tank. I think its pepboys or autozone brand, but very good.
