Thiefs suck DIKK.

Honey, I am so Sorry you don't fine me exciting and that I am not providing a source of entertainment for you, care to join me at the local strip joint!!!, girls there are fun and the entertainment is awesome not to mention they have good food..

Sorry but this is the worst advice ever. What if the intruder is on drugs, or drunk and too out of his mind to realize? What if he has a hearing problem? What if he doesn't care??
I've taken a few NRA instructor courses, one of them being for Personal Protection Inside of the Home, and we went into great detail about this subject. If you use lethal force, it is best to keep your mouth shut while being questioned by police until you have some time to clear your head and get your thoughts together (also getting a lawyer is a good idea). Too many people mistakenly talk themselves into handcuffs by simply saying something wrong that may warrant some type of guilt or lying etc. This being CA, the use of lethal force is extremely difficult to get away with!
And no, typically a shotgun is not the best weapon for home defense (debatable) because of its size, and spread pattern is fairly compact even down a hall. You must shoot to neutralize/stop the threat, never to injure or specifically to kill.
With all of that said, I have a Springfield 1911 w/ hollow points close by, and a Mossberg 500 close by as well, because you never know. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it, imo.
The fact that I have guns to help defend myself and my family if I truly needed to has nothing to do with your statement that I mentioned above. You don't want to assume anything in a scenario like that. To give people advice that they will be safe enough simply pumping a shotgun to scare away intruders/thieves is simply not a good idea.
Would I follow my advice as a way to attempt to scare off an unarmed thief who I did not intend to harm outright initially? Absolutely. At the end of the day I have a loaded shotgun in my hands, so you assuming he could be worse than "common" and could be "crazy" has me covered on both ends of the spectrum.
It is easy to criticize someone's ideas when you provide none yourself.
You have every right to react to any situation that you see best fit, but that does not mean that that is the best or smartest means to do so. In a conversation about life and death and the safety of others, if I do not feel that someone's advice is best, I will give my alternate opinion, as I did.

The best or smartest means (which you have yet to state), please enlighten us.
We have different viewpoints and methods, I have stated mine, defended mine, you have done neither.
Have a nice day..
