it depends on how crazy your combo is i would imagine. My buddy used to do it all the time on his swapped jeep because it would never pass. So he would mix about 1/3 ethanol or so into the his tank when it was low. the tester was like "damn this thing is like a hybrid" and it would pass amazingly. but the molecules are bigger then the gas molecules so it will make your car run leaner. And ethanol has zero emissions so that is why it helps so much.

Although I'm not familiar with the trick, when 180ls1 states to use ethanol, don't go reaching for the expensive pure ethanol (100% EtOH, 200 proof). You want denatured alcohol that's 99% pure ethanol. The other 1% is methanol. There's no tax on this product, so it's cheaper. Also, don't drink it. In high enough quantities, methanol will make you blind. In fact, methanol poisoning is treated using ethanol.
