Default 30th Anniversary SS SLP Camaro M6

Friend at church owns it and I never thought I'd see the day he wanted to sell it. It's all stock with 10K miles on it. He worked at a Chevy dealer in 1997 and wanted an anniversary car. So he located one and got it. One owner (him), heated garage kept, covered up, not even a bug stain on the front nose...the car is unreal. I've drove it last summer for about 200 miles helping him relay some cars at his job. I've seen low mileage 30th Anniv. SS cars on Ebay with a BIN price in the low $20s (20-23ish). Not sure if it'll matter but this car is also an SLP car.

Any ideas guys? He texted me today without provocation with a price he'd sell it to me for. It's not an LS1 car but the price he gave me......I can afford a kidney to pay for it! Here's a pic I took the day I drove it last summer.

They sit for a long time in the 20K range. If you log onto eBay today there are about 5 of them for sale. Some with as low as 3K miles asking in the low 20K range and the ones that were actually driven selling between 8 - 12K on average. Love the car! Just don't think I could pay more for a 97 than I would for a low milelage 2002 Trans Am or Firehawk which may never be produced again.

Still looking I see.
These '97 anniversary cars have asking prices all over the price spectrum. Two in Hemmings, with mileage around 30,000, have asking prices in the $14,000 area which means you can own one for $12,000 or $12,500 most likely. Others are asking $25,000 and $36,000 with very low miles. Insane but it is their time to waste. With your car having just 10,000 miles I would pay right up to $19,000 since it is stock and a one-owner. Any more than that is just too near an LS1 purchase with similar ultra low mileage. The 'anniversary' model is always more desirable but to what extent?
** Just some auction results below for you:
1) The 2012 Barrett Jackson (Scottsdale) sale brought $15.950 for a 29,000 miles convertible (had performance upgrades).
2) Another BJ auction (Orange Co. 2012) had a 24,000 miles 6 speed 'vert sell for $18,150.
3) 2 Mecum auctions in 2012 had higher mileage '97 'anniversary' cars sell for $6,000 and $8,750 respectively. I only included these to show how fast the pricing deteriorates once you put some mileage on them.
(The BJ car prices included the buyer's commission).
Is the seller being realistic with his price??

** I just remembered seeing one of these at a local car show last year. I completely forgot. I talked to the owner since he inquired about my T/A's boot cover. A show quality one-owner 'vert with 20,000 miles was bought for $15,000 in TN back in '09 or so. It was only lacking the boot cover. I'll stick to my advice above. If the SS is really sweet I would go up to $19,000 for a one-owner with 10,000 miles provided there are no issues involved (title, Carfax).

Thanks guys and yes Dave....still looking. The owner told me for $18,000 come get the car out of his garage. And it truly is cherry. But I'm really trying to keep under a certain amount and $18K exceeds my magic number by quite a bit.

Stand by though....might be something on the horizon....

Thanks for the link. It sold for $7,500 which is right on the money according to the auction prices for higher mileage examples. 70,000 miles is nothing for an everyday driver but for a 'collector car', a totally different story. The bottom really drops out once you drive them. The minor accident didn't help either. There really is no denying what the auctions bring for sub $50,000 cars. That's what people actually pay.

His $18,000 is certainly fair and not out of line. I bet $16,500 - $17,000 cash gets the car a new owner. Sweet!

Well, the other car that was "something on the horizon" didn't work out. It was probably for the best though!

Life goes on....
