Default My rims look like crap! How do I clean them up?

Well before I get the flame war about how my rims should be on a fbody or any muscle car, can you at least tell me how i can clean them up? I bought them on the car and if I could I would sell them. Im almost temped to paint them black.

Here is the back side, it seems like it will wash up but it doesn't.

They look good if you give it the 5 footer!

Try good soap and water and if there are still spots there (which there will be) you're probably gonna have to use some steel wool or something to get some more off...I have spots on my chrome Z06's that won't come off unless I do that. You can also try and use like a chrome polish to see if that helps out more.

Ok ill give it a try the chrome polish first. What grit of steel wool should i use? I know they make it in fine very fine stuff like that.

The pics above was freshly hand washed. I tried to scrub the back with a mit but nothing.

Not sure on the grit, but you really dont need to worry about scratches, cause from the look of your rim it seems as though the inner wheel isnt noticable. I would try going from fine and work your way up.

Looks like the backside is stained from a combination of brake pad dust, and too harsh a chemical cleaner, possibly used to try and clean the brake dust. It might take a coarse automotive rubbing compound to get the heavy staining out, followed by a finer metal polish to get the shine back.

most of you will laugh but give it a try. take hand soap like gojo and foamy dawn. here what i do. i will do just a decent wash with soapy water to get the main grit off. then i take the rag apply some foam dawn soap a few squirts then a few good squirts of gojo and scrub a lil bit and just about anything should come off the wheels. thats my advice. good luck to ya

I had 19" Foose Speedsters on my 2000 WS6. I think they are good looking wheels. I then got some 18" Foose Nitrous wheels. I almost got another set of Speedsters but I couldn't pass up my HRE's.

I happen to like them but I have had A LOT more people hate them rather than like them.

Are those polished aluminum or chrome plated?

I cleaned the back of my chrome plated rims with a fine steel wool. Soak it in some soapy water. Make sure you keep the rim and steel wool very wet and soapy. I got 7 years of grime off the back of my factory wheels and they looked brand new after I was done.

i'd scrub it with some anti-corrosive solution and then use some fine grit

The fronts are chrome, I think the back is just polished.

dont know if you have tried it but never dull seems like it takes anything off. its a wadding type polish, they have it at wall mart. i have taken rust off of rims with it before. really good ****. and a small can will last you years.
