Default Drag radial recommendation

Ok guys so it's time for new rear tires the car isn't my DD so I'm in the market for a DR. I need to keep abs happy with the front stock 25.8 doameter rubbers on it. The wheels are 9.5"

Right now I run 295/35/18 out back g-force rivals and they go up in smoke at anything under 3rd gear, and they're not even worn down yet. Traction is useless from a slip, roll dump etc even applying throttle gradually will light them up in 1st.

I'm looking at anything that will work with abs and a 26" diameter. So far I've found...

555R 285/35/18
Mt et street II 265/40/18 or 245/40/18

I'm just worried about how the 555r will hook. I hear they aren't the best on the track. I'll be hitting the track on occasion but Mexico is more my style so street traction is paramount. I don't care if I can't dump the clutch at 4K but I would like to be able to slip it and just roll into it without breaking them loose. The car currently makes ~465whp

The mt 265 I fear since its 26.3" will be enough to **** off abs while the 245 might just be too narrow.

I ran 275/45/16 Toyo TQs on a pair of 16" stockers when I had my 4th gen. Great traction and great street manners. Got caught in the rain twice with them going to PBIR and they behaved very well at 60mph.

Ya I still want to pick up a set of 15's to put a real tire on. This will just be for the street so id like to keep them on the 18's

Monmouth, I listed the mt's up there but I think the 245's might be too narrow, do you think they would still hook better than the nittos?

I love my Toyo TQ's on the street, they hook pretty good. At the track I was able to get a 1.7 60 ft out of them, but they were aired down quite a bit.

What about the Nt05r....I think they are a very good all around radial. I love my mt's and they hook better than the nt05r but if I never went to the track I would run the nt05r.
I think the 555r is a waste of time for ya imo

You did...sorry my bad. For street I really like the Toyo dr and here is why: As far as traction goes it's as good as my BFG dr, but lasted almost as long as my 555R. Also it handles decent like the 555R. To me it's the perfect street tire at around your power level. I'll be going with them again when my BFG dr's are done

The Toyo is not going to get the job done at your power level. The 315/35/17 Toyo TQ hooked good for me with full bolt on's, but when I went H/C/I they did not hook for ****. I went to a 275-50-15 MT and picked up 8 tenths on the street.

me too.. that is why I went with a 15" wheel in the rear so I could maintain a 26" tire but have more sidewall.

Man im in the same boat..lol. i want a drag radial that will hook and be safe to drive.. it seemed like Nitto 555r and Toyo are the popular choices. I would strongly consider 555r but hate how they look small.

The best seems to be M/Ts but than again they arent the safest.

What about the NT05R?

Are you running 18"s all the way around? What if you ran 17"s in the back..

That is what I said. Went from low 12's to mid 11's on the Street according to my GTECH from a tire/wheel change. Side wall is what gains traction not a width.

I would look into the Hoosier DR. Stickiest tires I've ever had by a good margin.
