Default Installing kill switch on our cars? HOW HARD?

Well i have been wanting to install a few kill switches in my car since i bought it just for a lil more peace of mind

but i also been worried of taking it to a random electronic shop because im afraid they will do it wrong or something or mess with the vats system. plus i want a good kill switch system probably more then just one.

so i was wondering how hard is it to install a few killswtiches in our cars and should i be worried of taking it to the local place to get them installed?

i was thinking of maybe calling up some reputable LS1 shops and seeing if they would do it but i don't really wanna pay a arm and a leg for it.

or is there a good write up on how to do a kill switch on our ls1?
i have a freind that know how to do kill switches but not sure if the vats system may interfere?
any help would be great! thanks

It's the easiest thing ever. Do it yourself.. I'm kind of confused as to what you mean by, a "few" killswitches? Just make one that cuts off your fuel pump relay.

The 2 kill switches I can think of are cut off fuel and cut off ignition.

The few times I had to park my car in a bad neiborhood, I just pulled the fuel pump fuse in the engine bay. It will simply cut off fuel to the motor. The only way for it to be actually stolen is towed. I doubt anyone 'd check the fuses or carry spare ones.

so what if i accidentally forget to turn the fuel pump on can it do harm to the car?

so i wont need to do anything special because of the vats system?
i heard if not done right it may lock you out for 4-6 minutes if you do not do it properly.

what i meant a few was putting combination switch on my car like hold the brake and a witch in order to turn it on.

With a fuel cutoff the car should just crank.

Default Im in favor of no switch.

I recomend just pulling the fuse and hiding it or keep it with you safely.

If you try to start the car without the fuse back in its place, the car will crank but wont turn over simply because the engine isn't getting any fuel to burn.

If you forget to put the fuse back and start the car, it won't hurt the motor in the first try. Just remember to put the fuse back .

Use your imagination on what type of switch you want to use and switch the fuel relay. Very easy to splice into the correct PCM wire through the firewall and then it's either on or off. Nearly any type of switch can be used - you can even combine switches if you want.

im thinking of doing that thanks

but i read it 2 times and looks so confusing cant i just chop the purple starter wire and add a stand alone (not used for anything else) switch that i need to hold in order to start the car?
will this interfere with my vats system since his car was a 96 i dont know if they had vats.
And will the wires and colors be the same from a 96 and 98?

You're going to need an actual switch. I think if you use a push button one, which would be pushed in when you crank the car, as soon as you let it go, the starter will die out.

You can use a switch you already have. I used one of the window switches like in the example. Use 96 have VATS, mine is a 96.

Not sure about the same color wires, since GM never really changes it wouldn't surprise me if they are the same colors.

Heres whats done to mine (previous owner) The gauge cluster fuse was removed. Then wires were run out of the + and - side of where the fuse used to be. Then the two wires meet at a toggle switch hidden where ever you want. The gauge cluster fuse powers a few important systems according to this thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/ls1-domes.../t-649310.html
Note: I haven't tested it out yet.

You replaced the GAUGES fuse with a switch and left it unfused???? Perhaps the possibility of a fire under your dash is what is keeping the car from being stolen.
