Default Anyone drug 1/0 gauge through the firewall?

Just curious if anyone has done this, and how difficult it was/location. I heard behind the ECM was good, but I'm thinking this might be too thick.

I'm about to run some and I think you can get it through the firewall groment that the computer wires go through. Running it in the interior of the car might be tricky though.

What I'm going to do is run it over the front fender well and then in the area where the computer is at cut a hole in the bottom that area and then run it under the car for I don't want the bulge in the carpet and I also am going to be running a speaker down in the kick area and need it tucked in as far back into the corner as possible so I don't want the 0 gauge wire affecting that.

Check out www.fbodyaudio.com and look in the pic gallery section and you might find some older pics of DJSexay's older installs where he has pics of how his 0 gauge wire was run in the car. You can also go to www.djsexay.com and see pics.

HTH!

Depends what you are doing man. If he's planning on like 2K or 3K watts then I don't see any issues with him wanting to run a 0 gauge wire.

I ran 1/0 gauge thru the firewall behind the ECM. Remove the ECM, and there's an existing grommet there with some wires running through it. the grommet is about 2-2.5" wide, and pretty elastic. I just cut the hole a little bigger carefully, and ran my wire thru. Here's a pic of it: http://www.snootch420.freewebspace.c...s/grommet1.jpg

Sweet! That's good news.

I only plan on running 1,100 RMS. (500 for the frontstage, and 600 to a 10")

Is there any good forum post here for how to take off body panels, and how to stop some common rattles?

Thanks everyone.

Not on an LS1, but this may help:
I ran 1/0 cable in my old Supra. I called it "elephant dick" cable, hehe. I had to use a hole-saw on the firewall on the pass. side and then installed a grommet. To route it, I went through the center of the car as it would not fit under the sill plates. I installed it on top of the Dynamat, and then added duct tape over it the entire length so it would not move around. I also used the same diameter ground cable, with both power and ground going into 1/0-4guage splitter blocks. I had 3 amps, a PPI 1800.2, PPI 300.2,and a PPI 50.4. I liked it, and it may have been overkill, but I knew that I wasn't lacking current!

I have run 1/0 on a 2001 Ws6 no problem.

hiding it under the carpet was harder than running it through the firewall.

if all you are gonna power is 1100 watts 4 gauge is plenty! i ran over 3000 watts with 4 gauge with no problem.

I bet that wire got really hot though. Did you notice a Band-Aid type of smell after running the system at near peak volumes for an extended amount of time? That smell is the insulation getting soft with heat. You need to use the proper gauge wire for the length you need, taking into account the amount of current you will be pulling through it. Unless you think carpet fires are really cool. Check this out: http://www.precisionautosound.net/wiregauge.html

Yup I just ran it behind the PCM yesterday! Remove the kick panel by the passenger side, remove the PCM from its cradle and you are set. You'll need 2 people, one inside the car and the other under the hood to grab the wire when you feed it through! FWIW, I also have my 6AN nitrous line running through there too! So you'll have plenty of room!

Great! Now I just need to find the time to do this.

I did over gauge a bit on the wiring, but I thought it was better to over gauge, then under any day.

It can be done but with that amount of watts its really not necisarry you might gain .1 volts on a 18 ft run from 4 to 0/alt guage.

I ran it in my spl vehicles and never had a problem! granted i was at max only running 10-15 ft at MOST! but also the stereo never had to run REAL hard for much longer than 30-60 seconds in the db bay.
