How you can add an aux input/mp3 player without an adapter
#342
jason I have a very interesting question , I have a radio out of a 2005 tahoe I wanted to add the aux port to but I have a ribbon. I decided to go ahead and try it, this is what I found, My audio is on the 6th and 8th wire band if you have the radio laying with the cd down counting from left to right Harness away from you. thing is I sliced the two bands so I could cut into them once I cut into them and the cd was still playing. after hooking up a speaker to ground and a paper clip wire nutted those were the only 2 with audio should the audio not be playing if those two wires are cut in half.

I'm not sure I completed understand your situation, but if you're using the harness that connects the CD player module to the main board that should be right. If those are the only two wires with audio I'm not sure how it could still play CD music with them cut and completely disconnected?
You're not using the jack - if you are make sure you're connecting the jack correctly. The diagram in this post may help:

before even getting the jack wired into the radio it is still recieving audio from the cd player After cutting the two bands with audio. I have checked all the bands in the ribbon and the only two with audio I have cut left disconnected and it is still recieving audio. This really has me perplexed. I understand how simple this should be just for the record I have cut the only bands of wires leaving the CD unit going to the main board it contains 18 bands. As you have heard in the past this is a great way of adding a AUX to a factory radio and I think your a genious for thinking this up its crazy how you have come up with this. very awesome i can buy the adapter but i really would like to get it done myself.

That is really strange ... so the CD module is only connected to the main board by an 18 wire cable and cutting the only 2 wires you've found carrying audio and it still plays? Doesn't really make sense - it's not on any additional wires or another cable - though not sure why they'd duplicate the audio. Could it possibly be coming from a changer?

truck doesnt have a changer installed pretty plain truck all it has is a CD player, and yes the CD module is connected by only an 18 ribbon jumper. not sure whats going on im in the process of again checking my wiring ill let you know what i find

Wow, I just did mine today and it worked beautiful. The only problem is that 3.5 mm jack from Radio Shack seems pretty cheap, any little move I do to the cable it starts to crackle once in a while, other than that it sounds good. Thanks for the tip!!

great writeup. just did this this afternoon.
the method in the write-up is overly complicated IMO. I spliced in to the CD changer harness outside of the headunit, which was much easier.
CD changer harness:
Brown+ stripe = left audio
Green+ stripe= right audio
ground to HU chassis

yeah its easier if you actually have a cd changer which most dont

right above the car charger port, so, directly in front of the e-brake.
I avoided the driver and passenger side leg area, because i figured at some point, someone with big clumsy thighs (me) would run my leg in to it and break it off.
i've had two f-bodys, both had changers. i dunno

And I think I am going to just spice the actual cable itself into the wiring rather than fooling around with the aux jack. I plan to run the cable into the center console to hide everything.

Can't do that. Unless you never want to listen to the source you tap into again. But I think you may know that now after seeing you need the source signal to still be present to trick the HU.

I have a lot of random pieces laying around I just used, if you need to buy a piece and I'm not sure where the cheapest price would be, but I know you can get it almost any place like Walmart.
If you don't need something right away you can get it cheap on monoprice.com even with shipping, good place to pick up HDMI cables while you're at it.
