It's standard cable for hooking up computers/cable modems/etc onto a network:

To ground to the chassis you just connect the wire to the outer metal case of the radio, there are some places you can secure it

Also does the first post have a picture to where you grounded it, if not do you have one?
Sorry for all the questions just want to be positive.
Thanks,

I wouldn't pull out the wires, the cable has 8 wires in the sheath, just use 5 of them and cut the others flush - just to keep it cleaner.
For the ground you can use any screen that touches the chassis, just loop it around and tighten it. If all else fails just strip and inch or two off the wire and loop it a few times through one of the vent holes on top:

Oh for crying...
Incase anyone runs into the same stereo as my 2001 Impala, I wanted to post my solution. I had an electronics friend do some testing on both of the cables going into the CD player while the CD player was playing, and we figured out that the audio is on the 6 pin cable, NOT the 14 pin. Left speaker is the Black wire, let's call black wire Pin 1, Right speaker would be pin 3. In my picture the 6 pin cable is in the top left of the board, the black wire is on the right side of the connector.
So the BLACK cable was pin 1 and the L audio on yours?

ok so i need some help.. i did this mod but my sound is crap and its only coming out of the right side..
i have a 02 ss camaro.
this is how i did it
pin1------- split and attached to the aux---- on the otherside i reattached to wire
pin2---left alone
pin3------- split and attached to aux------on the otherside i reattached to wire
pin4---left alone
pin5---left alone
pin6---left alone
i think there is six i may be wrong but i also grounded the aux input too. did i connect them wrong?? any diagrams that better explain what wires i need to tap into??

Check post 107 and 208 for some additional. help. Make sure your plug is fully seated. That can make only one side work if you don't have it fully seated. Check your solder joints etc.

I know its a long time since this thread was posted..but i have a 2006 chevy malibu Lt. and i want to do this time mine. im just wondering if the first and third pins are the left and right audio as well? or if they are different ones. i guess i could just use a fuse tester for it. but i just want to be positive before i splice into them. thanks in advance.

Just wondering, would it be possible to have it take over the fm tuner when you plug in instead of your cd player?

I first tried this with my 97 SS's Monsoon cd player and couldn't get it to work (it had the serial cable instead of wires...so it could have been done, but I'm not that talented..lol). A couple days later a friend let me have the one out of his 98 SS and it was completely different on the inside despite being seemingly the same radio from the outside and only one year apart. It worked like a charm.

OK still didn't work after the ground idea. I took it apart and fixed it back to stock. And still no signs of life. Maybe I screwed it up? Guess I need to go to the salvage yard and get a replacement. I have the standard 10 speaker system delco radio so just any should work I guess. I have a spare tape deck which I guess I should have tried on it first but it works fine when I put it in. So no telling what is wrong

Ok after more looking into it. I shined a flashlight at the screen and saw loc. I unlocked the radio and it works. SO either the bulb is burned out or the lcd screen is. Any opinions? I have a spare tape deck but can';t get the bulb out of it.
