Home Depot, Orchard, or Lowe's should have wire you could get for real cheap. I got like 5 ft. at Orchard for $1.25. Also if you have an extra ethernet cable around that you're not going to use you can use that and just cut off the male jack part.

I know if you have a changer you can tap into the changer harness ... there was another thread recently with the correct wiring. You can use the same switching jack mentioned in this thread

installed new phone jack.. still havin same issue.. its got to be somethin with the wireing... but I be damned if I can figure it out. I did find out another problem that maybe related... when I put hooked it back up in the car I did a fade left to right. The left speakers you could hear sound from.. the right ones you couldnt hear anything comeing from them. Imma figure this out if it kills me.. tho Ive done burnt myself a few times with the soldering gun already ![Bang Head](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_banghead.gif)

Did this mod to my CD unit, and mounted switch/plug in my console. Did the Dremmel thing from the inside to thin it down a bit, to get the nut on from the outside, and it all worked out great. Use it with my XM Receiver and get great sound through my HU. I have a cassette unit in my other car and will try this mod as well, but with a mini-DIN connector at the back of the unit to connect the cable with the jack, for easy HU removal without having to remove the installed plug in the console.
Great work Jason, all the credit goes to you.

Glad it worked for you ... good idea on the mini-din connector. I've done one cassette player before, the wiring should be in this thread somewhere. I guess the only thing I'm not sure of is if a cassette auto-reverses just once or keeps going forever, though I guess that isn't a bid deal.

I read somewhere on another forum, of someone who tried this mod with the cassette, and to activate the amp, he used an old cassette where he removed the tape. Just so the spindle was activated while the cassette is inserted, activating the circuitry. Said it worked out good for him, so I'll try that out.

Just did this writeup and it works like a Champ! Very happy I did this instead of going with an aftermarket unit or other method. I hook my Samsung Instinct up and when people call it shuts the music off and I can hear them over the car stereo, lol. Bonus hands-free kit!

I just did this mod on my 98 vette. Unfortunately i have the ribbon cable going from my CD player to the main board in the Head Unit. Fortunately the bottom board in the HU is for the radio, and i was able to find the left and right channels coming out of it. Works exatly like the CD player, just have your radio on and you are golden.
FYI, it was the 4th and 5th wires instead of the 1st and 3rd like in the original post.

I thought the corvette still uses the standard 98-02 GM radio? I know there was another guy who was modifying corvette stereos, I'm not sure what year. The radio would be the optimal source, my unit had the radio all on the main board, so although it's probably possible it's not as easy as tapping into a ribbon cable.
