Default mtx 9500 series?

I am looking at going with an mtx 9500 series subwoofer. the only thing is is I can't decide b/w a 12" or 15". anybody have any insight on if either of these two sizes are better than the other? or just if the 9500 series is a good sub or not. I know the 15" is gonna be louder but which one sounds better along with hits hard.

only reason I can't really decide b/w the two is b/c I can get them both for about the same price.

What kind of music do you like? If you're a rapper guy, the 15 would probably be more your style. For rock, 12 all the way. The 12, IMO, is a better all around sub. I've only heard a 9500 10" in a custom ported box in an S-10 and let me tell you it was LOUD. I doubt you'll need more than a 12" could give you. Some people (but not many) might tell you that MTX isn't a good sub, but I beg to differ. I've used them, sold them, and my friends use them and I haven't heard any complaints.

I listen to all kinds of music. Usually a mix of rap and rock though. How bad would a 15" sound with rock music?

IMO a 15 wont be horriable with rap. I had a pair of 15s for a while and it was killer on rap and i found it to be fine with rap. If you listen to a lot of heavy metal and heavy rock the 12 will probally keep up a bit better. Make sure u take into consideration the size of box the 15" will need over the 12"

One of the biggest differences you'll notice is that if you listen to any music with really fast bass, like a double bass drum(if you like the heavy stuff, Fear Factory comes to mind), then a 15 is more likely to have a hard time keeping up with it, so the individual beats will kind of meld together. A 12" is much better at hitting each beat. Like pentavolvo said, too, the 15" box will be way bigger too.

i had 2 15" subs a long time ago, didnt like them at all. i listen to pretty much everything you can think of, and therefore need a system that can reproduce lots of different types of music well. the 15's are great for loud, deep, and loose bass, but not at all for rock. ive since moved on to a pair of 12" Alpine Type R's, a JL 13W7, and im running a JL 10W6v2 currently, which is much more accurate and still holds up well with rap. if you listen to a decent mix of music, 12's (or a single 12) are probably your best bet. best of both worlds near the accuracy of a 10, with more output for those bass heavy songs that many like to listen to at high levels.

As far as the MTX 9500's go, I haven't personally experienced one, but i hear that they come close to the output of the W7's, and let me tell you, thats more bass than anyone needs on a regular basis...

MTX 9500, is a big sub!
You really want all that weight? You can have that sound with less weight.

i disagree, i love the 15's in my cutlass but only with certain songs. i have a single 12 in my TA and would never purchase a 15 again. 12's have are much more impressive when listening to music. the 15's do draw a little more outside attention which isn't always good.

also as stated before the space needed will be a disadvantage.

I'm not familiar with these sub's specs but if you need more power for the 15 it means more $$$$ for the amp

I loved my 15s and was sad when I got rid of em. Not all 15's are sloppy sounding either
