Descreen or don't descreen
Is it worth any extra HP or better flow to descreen the maf on a ls1? I noticed these don't snap out like the lt1's did so I didn't want to mess anything up by smashing this one out. Any thoughts? Bad idea?

This topic has been discussed MANY times!
In my opinion, it's not worth it. Many people have done it though, and have not had an issue with it. I've seen a couple of things on my MAF screen that the air filter has not caught so I look at it as a final filter before it goes any further. It's your call.

I took the screen off of my LS1 and I've never had any problems with it. It sounds different when I rev it up though... you hear alot more suction if you will...

I was going to do this until I looked at it and seen the screen had caught a bug or two, some pine needles, and one of those little helicopter things that fall off trees.

Not gonna say it won't help, but I wouldn't do it. Something could make its way to the MAF. Without the screen it will go right through. Not a good situation.
People have found all kinds of stuff on the screen. Bugs, twigs, etc..

removing the screen will help but it can tweak the tune so it should be adjusted or done before a tune, just like getting an 85mm maf to replace a stocker...

I did it and had no issues. Been descreened since like 03. lots of trips to the track and thousands of street miles...of coarse I was going for a stock internal record and was trying to get every ounce of HP i could get..fyi

A stock screened maf will only flow about 800cfm if I remember correctly, as a descreened maf can flow over 1000cfm. Food for thought. And this thread has been started WAY to many times. It's the same every single time, half say do it, half say don't do it.
Come to think of it. I have been wondering if it's worth it to descreen your maf or not. I think I'll make a thread about it next week...

My car's my daily driver, and I am not rich enough to replace a blown motor because something stupid like that happens. I'm just sayin. Why would cost-cutting GM spend the money to put a screen in the MAFs if all it did was obstruct airflow?
