37-Mile 35th Anniversary Camaro SS: Holy Grail Find?
With a 6-speed manual and the SLP package, this fourth-gen Camaro SS lacks nothing.
After suffering through nearly two decades of emissions control performance hell, GM truly got back in the game with the fourth-gen Camaro and Firebird. Then, it turned up the heat with the Camaro SS and Trans Am WS6. These cars proved hugely popular with tuners and racers alike, both back in their heyday and now. So today, finding a nice, low-mile example isn’t exactly easy. Especially when you’re looking for the penultimate Camaro SS.
We’re talking about this 2002 35th Anniversary model, which we spotted over at Autotrader. A car that also celebrated the end of the fourth-gen. The limited edition package featured bright red paint and twin silver stripes that fade into checkered flags. Toss in loads of badges, embroidery, and a set of special wheels, and you’ve got your typical GM special edition car. Not to mention a potential collector’s item.
That latter bit obviously influenced the seller of this SS to keep it in storage and off the roads. Because today, it sports just 37 miles on the odometer. Yes, you read that correctly: thirty-seven miles. Adding to the intrigue is the factory 6-speed manual, because who wants an automatic from this era? But things get even better from there. This car is also reportedly equipped with all the SLP upgrades available, which would bump total output from 325 hp up to 345 ponies.
In addition to a high-flow induction system and cat-back exhaust, the SLP package adds a Bilstein sport suspension. But does all of this goodness make this car worth the $42k asking price? If nothing else, it’s clear that the owner’s dreams of winning the lottery by stashing this car aren’t going to pay off. But if you’re in the market for a practically new, top of the food chain fourth-gen, you won’t do much better.
