The Pirelli World Challenge Championship is about to start, and Cadillac is charging in with its sights on nothing less than utter domination. The team has been preparing by testing at the Austin’s Circuit of the Americas. Not only is COTA the only F1 level track in the U.S., it’s the site of the first race of the season.

Cadillac is fielding a pair of ATS-V.R cars, making this the second full season for the new racer. Driving these machines are Michael Cooper and four-time defending champion Johnny O’Connell. You may recognize that name as the man who also stood on the podium at Le Mans 8 times while he was with Corvette Racing. Cooper is no slouch himself, and he holds the GTS class championship trophy for 2015.

With renewed force coming from rivals like Audi, McLaren, Porsche and Aston Martin, Team Cadillac certainly won’t be sliding easily into another consecutive championship. That said, with two incredible drivers, and a 600 horsepower V8 stuffed under the sexiest looking machine on the field, I still feel like this year’s series is theirs to lose. Especially since O’Connell’s car is wearing Velocity Red paint, and as well we all know, red ones go faster.
