Build winners will be receiving a 2020 C8 Corvette as a prize and that’s just the start.

As we all know, the annual SEMA show brings in the top brass from all the aftermarket automotive companies in the world. It is a showcase for companies to display what they consider to be the best build they can bring forward to really show off the brand and what they are capable of. But what if we told you that there are some incentives from OEMs such as Chevy, to build a bad-ass car or truck?

Well, there is and it’s known as the Chevy SEMA Design Awards. This contest of sorts encourages companies to build the boldest and coolest vehicle they can, using GM-based products. Let’s see exactly what it takes to get on the roster of this crazy contest.

If your company has time and talent, plus a deep love for Chevy, this is probably the contest to be in. Without a doubt judges will be placing craftsmanship and subtle detail at the forefront of their expectations for a winning build. Who will be the judges? Designers from Chevy of course. Probably the most critical judges you could imagine, as you literally would be changing their products that they spent years designing for something completely different.

However, there is a variety of different categories for companies and builders to choose from.

  • Car of the Year
  • Truck of the Year
  • Best Off-Road Truck Build
  • Best Track Build
  • Innovative Use of Technology
  • Designer’s Choice

What exactly can builders expect to have as a rule set for their respective builds? Well, Chevy has left a lot of the tables for these companies due to the nature of SEMA. However, there are some limited restrictions that include retaining the iconic Bowtie if originally equipped and the vehicle must use a GM-based powertrain. However, builders may be given additional points from judges for using Chevy Performance Parts, Chevy Accessories, or Chevy Crate Engines.

Considering how intensely most aftermarket companies take SEMA, it’s safe to say that there will be some stringent competition. While SEMA isn’t until November, the deadline for registering is on October 11th. Best of luck to the contestants, I’m sure we’ll see some really incredible builds.
