Don’t Sleep on These Zs: C8 Z06, ZR1 Caught on Facebook

C8 Corvette Z06 and ZR1

Shot by Randy Hermann, both C8 Corvette Z06 and ZR1 were caught undercover with more ‘Vettes, plus a Ferrari and a Porsche.

The C8 Corvette’s experienced a few speed bumps along the way to the showroom, but it’s nice to finally see a few of the mid-engine wonders out and about. The base ‘Vette’s packs quite a punch from its 6.2-liter LT2, too. You’ve got 490 horses and 465 lb-ft of torque on tap to smoke it up! Meanwhile, the Z51 package bumps up the power to 495 ponies and 470 lb-ft of torque. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but for most, it’s perfect.

For most. There’s a set of Corvette fans who want a different Z on their ride. Specifically, the Z06 and the ZR1. And it looks like the high-performance C8s are just on the horizon. AutoEvolution reports a lucky Facebooker in Michigan spotted the pair on a workout with some friends.

Captured by Randy Hermann, three camo’d C8 Corvettes were seen with a Porsche 911 GT2 RS, a Ferrari 458 Italia, and a pair of regular C8 ‘Vettes. He says one of the camo’d ‘Vettes had a “unique, quad exhaust centrally mounted with outer pipes being about half the diameter of the inner.” That ride, per AutoEvolution was more likely than not the ZR1, based on the exhaust’s description, plus the wider flanks out back.

The other two camo’d C8 ‘Vettes, though, lacked said center exhaust. Those rides appear to be none other than the Z06 our friends at Corvette Forum talked about recently. The new Z06 takes some of its styling cues from the C8.R, including a wider rear with wider air intakes. And it has a big wing to hold it down in the back, too.

All three of the camo’d C8 Corvettes wore the same set of covered wheels and rubber captured by Corvette Forum‘s spy photographers. Per their findings, the tires appear to be Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Rs. Meanwhile, the covers are likely hiding carbon fiber wheels.

As for power, the Z06 is set to have a flat-plane V8, in the form of the LT6. The ZR1, meanwhile has a V8 dubbed the LT7, per AutoEvolution. Between the two, a total of 1,250 or so horses are ready to run. It’ll be a bit of a wait to hear them, though; the Z06 and its 600 ponies are due sometime in 2022. No word on the ZR1, alas.
