ETS has held the C8 Corvette Stingray quarter-mile record a few times, but recently came roaring back with its quickest pass yet.

Following the launch of the C8 Corvette Stingray a few years ago, a veritable arms race of sorts began between a few companies eager to develop twin turbo kits for the mid-engine machine, as well as a rather popular YouTuber. Those folks kept pushing the envelope of what was possible with a car that had an uncrackable ECU (which has since been cracked), using piggyback setups to circumvent that particular limitation. One of the companies involved in this battle royale of sorts is Extreme Turbo Systems, and while much of its competition gave up on the C8 Corvette Stingray when the Z06 launched, ETS kept going – and recently reclaimed its own record.

ETS was actually the first to get a C8 Corvette Stingray into the nines back in October 2020, but when YouTuber Emelia Hartford began wrenching on her own C8, that mark quickly fell after she managed to record a best quarter-mile run of 9.39 seconds. ETS didn’t give up, however, and reclaimed that record in August 2021 by running a 9.05.

FuelTech USA soon emerged as yet another contender for world’s quickest C8 Corvette Stingray, and slipped by ETS by running a 9.01-second pass shortly thereafter, and then became the first in the eights with an 8.97-second run. Yet another name – Late Model Racecraft – threw its hat in the ring by claiming the record for itself with an 8.83-second pass in August 2022, a mark that has stood ever since, as pretty much all of these companies – and Hartford – essentially traded their Stingrays for Z06s.

However, despite this long period of silence, it seems that ETS has been working on improving its Stingray all this time, as it just went out and reclaimed the quarter-mile record it has held a handful of times over the years. On a recent track outing, the company managed to rip off an 8.64 second pass at 170 mph, a stunning figure for this particular model, indeed.

Of course, ETS had to beef up the bottom end of their LT2 V8 to handle the boost coming from its twin turbo kit, and also reworked the heads and added its own tuning package to get these results. Otherwise, however, all they had to do was upgrade the clutch and add a drag pack, and their Stingray was ready to go run some eights – a truly impressive result for a relatively simple build.
