Gorgeous First-Gen Camaro Hides Twin-Turbo Big Block Monster

By -

It isn’t every day you see a first-gen Camaro capable of winning trophies at both car shows and drag races.

These days, we tend to focus a lot on modern muscle. And for good reason. For the last few decades, we’ve been able to purchase LS-powered vehicles on the cheap, then easily mod them into world beaters at the track. On the other hand, classics like the first-gen Camaro have slowly evolved into more of what you’d call show cars and you see fewer and fewer of them at the track these days. So when we caught a glimpse of this stunning ’69 Camaro and the beast that lurks under its hood, we were floored.

This Camaro isn’t some clapped out racer, either. It’s a beautifully constructed classic that’s every bit at home winning trophies as it is taking your lunch money at the strip on weekends. The level of detail, from the full interior to the engine bay and body, is top notch. Make no mistake, this thing is the definition of a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

The beast within is a 454 V8 bored and stroked out to 488 cubic-inches. It sports a host of goodies, including Brodix heads, an Edelbrock intake, and a pair of giant turbos. However, the owner, George, hasn’t been able to quite get it to produce the power numbers he wants. Thus, he does what many do, he goes to see the one and only Sloppy Mechanics. Or, as we here at LS1tech know him, denmah.

The first time out, George’s Camaro was suffering from some misfire issues. So our resident tuner added some boost and played around with the ignition timing, along with a host of other stuff. The result is a healthy 960 hp on a relatively meager 15 psi of boost. Sure, there’s obviously a lot more there, but this is a street car, and George is quite happy with the results. And who can blame the guy when he owns such a stunning ride?
