Andy Hateley is no stranger to the world of drifting. He was one of the first drivers to earn a D1 license when the D1 Grand Prix came over from Japan. Now, with 2014 starting Andy plans to bring a LS-powered BMW E30 to Formula Drift. Let’s take a look at what makes his E30 stand out.

First thing you’ll notice is that there isn’t a ton of room under the hood of an E30. In fact, the brake booster and master cylinder had to be relocated 90 degrees and installed under the dash.

The engine is a LS3 crate engine he bought off of Jegs and turns out to be better for what he wanted to do over the S54 BMW V8 he had planned to use. The engine is tuned by the famed Tom Nelson of Nelson Racing engines.

While it is essentially a bone stock LS3 and leaves him at a bit of a disadvantage in terms of power, Andy has been driving for about as long as the Pros have and his experience may pay off.
