American aren’t the only ones who like good old-fashioned brutish gas-destroying engines. Turns out the Aussies are fond of it, as well. Matt and Shane Corish of V12LS.com revealed a project that has been in the works for years: a V12 LS1 engine.

An idea that has been brought up here before, the modern marvel is basically two General Motors LS1 V8s smashed together. As of right now, it’s a prototype that will be soon sent to the U.S. to get tested.

The mechanics of it all is extremely creative and quite interesting. The the help of the guys at Dandy Engines, each LS1 was chopped up, and the block was created by welding the pieces together. They had to create a custom billet crank and camshaft, and two single-plane four-barrel intakes were custom fit. They used a Haltech Elite 2500 ECU, two FAST EFI throttle bodies, custom copper head gaskets, heavy duty valve springs, LS1 coils, and GM 241 cylinder heads.

The best part is that the guys don’t want this to be a one-off.

“The plan is to just dyno tune this engine and test its reliability in a car,” Shane said. “We’re going to put it in a ’68 Camaro and try and have it at SEMA this year, with a view to making the engines commercially available in 2017. Realistically it should make over 700 hp.”
