Holden to Build in US and Ship Down Under

I love Holdens despite not ever having driven one. Well, not officially any way. Personally though, I do find it a bit odd that GM’s specialty brand from down under would somehow find its way into our hearts by showing up in the US as re-badged new age muscle cars.

Maybe it’s the emphasis on brashly simple go-fast technology, or a certain level of charm that can only be achieved from shoving Corvette LS engines into mostly innocuous looking mid-size bodies. It’s a strange but splendid formula when we see these tail happy cars tearing up the rubber and harken back to the classic definition of a muscle car (potent engines in family-style RWD cars).

So here’s the bad news. GM has plans to wrap up all Australian production in 2017 with plans to pick up production for the Chevrolet SS and Caprice models in the US with additional plans to import back to Australia.

It’s a strange, globalized world we live in, but as long as the Holden identity holds strong throughout both continents, no complaints here.
