Is the 2024 Camaro SS Collector’s Edition Convertible Really Worth $62K?

Camaro SS Collector’s Edition convertible looked gorgeous at the LA Auto Show, but is the lesser version of the ZL1 worth the cost?

It’s been a couple of months since GM revealed the 2024 Camaro Collector’s Edition, a special send-off for the soon-to-be discontinued sixth-generation model. It’s a bittersweet moment in automotive history for pretty much everyone – even those that aren’t exactly Bow Tie fans – because, well, having less V8-powered, rear-wheel-drive machines to choose from is never a good thing. Regardless, those looking to score what might be the very last such version of the Camaro have the chance to buy one of these special models, which we here at LS1Tech were able to check out up close at the recent 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show – in this case, a 2024 Camaro SS Collector’s Edition convertible.

This particular 2024 Camaro SS Collector’s Edition convertible isn’t the range-topping ZL1 variant, but it is a nicely equipped and rather attractive machine, regardless. Buyers can also opt for the lesser 1LT and LT trims to pair this package with, in both coupe and drop top form, but in the case of the SS, it adds $5,995 to the price tag, along with plenty of unique features.

On the outside, those include the rather stunning color dubbed Panther Black Metallic, which looked pretty amazing under the lights at this particular show, along with black stripes (and a cool Panther Easter egg in the rear spoiler), 20-inch black wheels, and the 1LE Performance Package’s front splitter. Coupes also get the rear spoiler from the ZL1, to boot.

Peek inside the cabin, and you’ll find more Panther touches – this was the original code name for the Camaro development program, after all – including graphics on the door badging and steering wheel, coupled with unique floor mats and a welcome kit with a pair of posters. As has been discussed many times over, this is essentially just an appearance package, albeit a good one, anyway.

The real question here is – does this extra kit make the 2024 Camaro SS Collector’s Edition worth its nearly $62k price tag? One could argue that these goodies simply aren’t worth the $6k cost, though in the case of the ZL1 at least, that model will be limited to just 350 units and is far more collectible. However, if you don’t want to spend the nearly $90k required to bring one of those home – or if you simply don’t have it to spend – the SS version is still a nice piece of kit that is likely to appreciate in value moving forward as well, particularly if this really is the end of the line for the ICE Camaro as we know it.
