LSA-Powered 1969 Pontiac GTO Is One Slick Goat: Track Time Tuesday
Thousands of hours of labor went into transforming this 1969 Pontiac GTO into something extra special.
Whether you’re talking about the very first Pontiac GTO – which many argue was the original muscle car – or the more modern, LS-powered example, enthusiasts have always had a soft spot in their heart for this beloved model. But when you combine the best of both worlds into one slick, amazing ride, well, the results pretty much speak for themselves, at least in the case of this supercharged, LSA-powered 1969 Pontiac GTO going up for grabs at Barrett-Jackson’s upcoming Scottsdale auction.
Built by the folks at Metal Brothers Hot Rods in Theodore, Alabama, this 1969 Pontiac GTO certainly looks the part thanks to a recent ground-up restoration, a process that involved 1,000 hours of bodywork and paint, as well as making a host of modifications to the car to modernize its appearance as well. This include the addition of custom front and rear bumpers, shaved door handles, smoothed inner fender wells, and many coats of PPG Hugger Orange paint all over it.
Inside the cabin, you’ll find a full custom Steve Holcomb interior, VHX Dakota Digital gauges, a Billet Specialties steering wheel, Restomod air conditioning, and a Pioneer stereo, which sends sound to a variety of speakers throughout the cabin. There are also controls for the RideTech Pro E5 self-leveling remote suspension, which helps lift and lower the body over a set of custom Forgeline SC3C wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.
As amazing as this old goat is, no restomod job this thorough would be complete without the right powerplant, and it certainly has that as well in the form of a GM’s supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V8, which has been treated to a custom cold-air intake and Ultimate long-tube headers. It sends power to the rear wheels via a Bowler 6-speed manual transmission, while a set of Wilwood disc brakes at all four wheels help slow it all down.
With thousands of hours of labor and countless dollars invested, it’s hard to deny that this 1969 Pontiac GTO is one of the nicer offerings at Barrett-Jackson’s flagship auction, and we imagine that it drives every bit as good as it looks. As for how much it’ll ultimately garner when it crosses the block later this month, well, that’s anyone’s guess, but we feel like it’s a safe bet to nab six figures at a minimum.
