New Era TrailBlazer SS hits 1000HP on the Dyno

If this was on accident and held, might be time to do it on purpose.

Normally, this New Era Performance built-and-tuned, LS2-powered Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS runs at around 800-horsepower. However, when the boost controller let this turbo spool up to 22-PSI of boost, it saw just over 1000-horsepower to the wheels. Shows you the hidden power potential of a LS2 tuned with an HP Tuner software.

New Era Performance is no stranger to turbocharged trucks that make immense power. We showed off one of their brand-new Sierras that hit over 800-horsepower in our article on LT-based V8 Direct Injection tuning. However, the LS is still the bread and butter as most of the vehicles they have in the shop are still based on Gen III and IV blocks. This factory LS2-equipped TrailBlazer SS shows why as it hit 22-PSI of boost after the controller failed allowing the wastegate to remain closed instead of opening at 16-PSI.

However, the stock AWD 4L70E couldn’t quite handle the 800-horsepower and it was converted to a 2WD and rebuilt while it was out. The AWD system on the TrailBlazer SS uses a Torsen T-3 Transfer Case. It’s a helical planetary transfer differential with a non-fifty-percent torque bias. This allows it to primarily be RWD until it’s needed. When it is, it will begin to lock up when there is a torque difference between the front and rear differentials. However, instead of utilizing a computer to send a signal to lock up the differential in the transfer case, the Torsen is all mechanical using torque bias ratio to send power to the non-slipping wheels. For stock trucks, it’s more than strong enough, however, once you start putting bigger torque numbers down it’s not strong enough.
