One-Owner 1998 Camaro Z28 1LE Is a Rare, 20k-Mile Time Capsule: Track Time Tuesday Presented by the All-New Nitto Recon Grappler™ A/T
One of just 99 produced in 1998, this Camaro Z28 1LE is a true time capsule that also happens to be up for grabs.
For most of us, the fourth-generation Camaro holds a special place in our hearts, as many of us grew up owning one, or still own one today. This platform has stood the test of time thanks to its handsome looks and supreme performance potential, but while we love modified fourth-gens, we also dig bone stock examples, too. And in that regard, they don’t get much better than the subject of this week’s Track Time Tuesday presented by Nitto – a gorgeous, one-owner 1998 Camaro Z28 1LE with just 20k original miles that’s currently up for grabs at Bring a Trailer.
This particular fourth-gen Camaro Z28 1LE is special in a number of ways aside from its short ownership history and incredibly low mileage total. It’s also one of just 99 examples produced this particular model year that was equipped with the 1LE Performance Package, making it a truly rare find. Plus, it’s painted the right color – Bright Red, which is contrasted by Dark Gray upholstery inside the cabin.
This iconic look is sure to transport many of our readers back in time to a simpler era, one where cars were far cheaper and less complicated than today’s high-tech machines. The Z looks picture perfect with nearly flawless paint, save for a few requisite chips, along with a contrasting black roof and side mirrors. The original 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels are still there, as are a set of very old 245/50 Goodyear Eagle GS-C tires that need to be replaced.
The 1LE Performance Package added a host of upgrades including Koni shocks, heavy-duty springs, a front sway bar, and firmer suspension bushings. Braking is handled by anti-lock four-wheel discs, while power is provided by GM’s 5.7-liter LS1 V8, which was originally rated to produce 305 horsepower and 335 pound-feet of torque. The engine has been fitted with an MTI airbox, while the six-speed manual transmission is controlled via a Hurst shifter.
This stellar 1998 Camaro Z28 1LE quite simply has it all – it’s in amazing shape with low miles and a short ownership history, and yet, bidding has only crested $10k with just three days to go, as of this writing. Thus, there seems to be an opportunity for someone to sneak in and score this super-cool ride for cheap, which isn’t easy to do in today’s crazy market.
