All the RPM: Listen to This Z06 With a Procharger

By -

The first 8-second C6 has dropped a full second in e.t. and it revs to the moon as it rips through the quarter-mile.

Race Proven Motorsports isn’t just a clever name. The Delaware shop’s Ultra Street C6 Z06 also turns some serious RPM on its way down the track. It may have the most insane-sounding LS engine we’ve ever heard.

Corvette Z06 Procharger

YouTuber BigKleib34 caught the RPM Z06 at Holley LS Fest, where the howling Procharged V8 sounded almost like a Formula 1 engine. And the noise wasn’t the only fantastic part. This ‘Vette flies on the racetrack.

In another video (below), RPM’s Fran Schatz says not only was it the first C6 in the 8s, it also has run as quickly as 7.66 at 180 miles per hour. At LS Fest, it threw down some incredible eight-mile numbers in the 4.80s. That’s no fooling.

Schatz says the Z06 runs a 430 cubic-inch Dart block with All Pro aluminum heads and a CID intake. An F1A-94 Procharger shoves 20 pounds of boost into the combo with a casket-sized icebox in the back cooling the charged air. A Holley Dominator EFI manages the power and a PowerGlide/Ford 9-Inch rear end get the power to the 275-millimeter radials.

If we’re working backward, we can estimate horsepower. We entered the time and the minimum weight (3,250 pounds if we’re reading the rules right) into a HP calculator. With a best time of 7.66, it should be making well north of 1,350 horsepower.

The Delaware-based RPM shop is also turning out a whole bunch of cool projects, most of which feature gobs of horsepower. This twin-turbo Camaro threw down 833 ponies earlier this year, for example. They also modified this very Corvette for fender-exit exhausts with a big holesaw. As you might expect, that riled up the internet pretty well.

With Schatz saying the Procharger was maxed out, we wonder if that means some major revisions for the Z06.
