At birth, Mike Schickerowski had a condition which rendered him legally blind. Successful surgery gave him sight so he bought a sweet ride.

If you’re reading this, take a moment to be thankful for good vision. Mike Schickerowski was not offered such fourtune and from birth suffered a type of blurred vision blindness. According to CorvetteBlogger, Schickerowski noted “It basically involves involuntary movement of your eyes. If you’ve ever taken a photo with your camera and moved it slightly or the object moved and it’s a blur, it’s the exact same symptoms.” That is till two years ago when a surgery to correct the condition proved successful.

So what does the 44 year old Schickerowski do? He goes and buys a Corvette, of course! And a wild yellow Corvette Grand Sport at that.

He was so confident in his ability to drive again, Schickerowski actually bought the Corvette Grand Sport before taking his driving test. Residing in Alberta, Canada, a Corvette won’t even be a year round ride, but to Schickerowski, that doesn’t really matter. He explains, “some people said, ‘Oh, it’s Alberta, you need a truck,’ and sure I like trucks — they’re nice — but everybody’s got a truck.”

Of course, we have seen a number of drivers overcome numerous obstacles in order to throughly enjoy their passion. “Chairslayer” and his hand-controlled NASCAR race car is one such example. As well, we know of incredibly-talented blind mechanics. And now, Schickerowski is another example of a story to offer us perspective. Schickerowski offered a heart-melting sentiment of his new found freedom, saying, “I took my son fishing last week. I was never able to do that before on my own. I took my daughter for ice cream.

It’s unbelievable.” If this story tells us anything, it is to be appreciative for health, especially in these times. Schickerowski acknowledged that he missed out on four decades of vision, but is thankful and happy for a clear future.

To us, it is humbling to think that when someone now has the ability to see, the first thing they would do is enjoy the freedom of driving.
