ZL1-Powered 1965 Chevy C10 Is as Dark as It Is Sinister

Finished entirely in black and packing a rare big block underhood, this 1965 Chevy C10 is cool in more ways than one.

At this point, it seems like we’ve seen just about every kind of Chevy C10 build imaginable, given how popular that pickup has been for a very long time. From gorgeous stock restorations to wild high-horsepower builds, just about everything that can be done to the C10 has already been done, or at least, one would assume that to be the case. However, this 1965 Chevy C10 that’s set to be auctioned off at Mecum’s Florida Summer Special Sale in July manages to somehow pull off a combination that we haven’t quite seen before.

For starters, this 1965 Chevy C10 takes the whole “blacked out” look to an entirely new level, because every single thing we see here has received some sort of darkened treatment. The results simply speak for themselves, as this sinister black hole of a build is equal parts stealthy and wicked looking, and the builder clearly went to extremes to make that happen – heck, even the wooden bed floor is made from black walnut.

The right stance…

Rolling on a set of – you guessed it – black staggered 20- and 22-inch wheels, this 1965 Chevy C10 at least has the mechanicals to back up its extra-tough look, which isn’t always the case. In fact, under that shiny black hood lies a 2005 vintage 454 cubic-inch big block ZL1 Ram Jet V8, which also happens to be number 152 of 200 built. It sends power to the wheels via a 4L80E Street Fighter automatic transmission and a Currie 9-inch True-Trac rear end for what we imagine is exhilarating performance.

To help get that power to the ground, this C10 features a custom suspension setup with Bilstein shocks, coupled with four-wheel Wilwood disc brakes to help slow it down. As one might imagine, it features a pretty luxurious and amenity-laden interior as well, which is stuffed with niceties like leather seats, a custom center console and door panels, aftermarket gauges, a Vintage Air HVAC system, and power accessories.

Add it all up, and you’ve got one of the more unique C10s we’ve seen in some time, and one that’s guaranteed to turn heads everywhere it goes. Given its super subtle nature, that’s a notable feat, but then again, the roar from its rare and rather large powerplant probably doesn’t hurt.
