Has anyone painted carpet with SEM dye or something similar?
I am having a hard time swallowing the $250 for carpet that must be cut to fit correctly and that I could easily f-up.
Is the new carpet worth it?
If I sprayed it black with a "vinyl/carpet dye," what would be the end result?
Would the carpet feel like ***?
What kind of lifespan would it have if I dyed it?
Thanks in advance,
John

I just dyed my carpet using RID that you can find at walmart. This guy used it and his is great. The difference for me is night and day. If you look through my thread at the end you will see a pic of the floormats dyed. I wouldnt suggest using any paint. Dye is the way to go. I will post more pics soon of the finished carpet in the thread below. Its a huge difference IMO

The good thing is that I can take the carpet out and paint it. If that doesn't hold up to my standards, I use it as a template!
Also, I called it paint because in the end that is all that it really is. The dyes are basically just modified paints. Granted I wouldn't just get some gloss paint and soak it!
Thanks for the links.

i used 5 bottles which were right next to the boxes for like $2.70 a bottle. I didnt buy the boxes because the bottles were easier to use. I mixed one bottle of water with 2 bottles of dye ratio into an empty spray bottle and sprayed away. As i sprayed it i scrubbed it in really well with a brush. Then let it dry. Washed it with water on the hose, let it dry in the sun again, and then did touch ups on small areas to make sure it was even.

Would this dye that you guys are talking about work on our leather (or w.e tf they are) seats?
If you're gonna spray the carpet, you gotta use a brush and "scrub" it into the fibers of the carpet, but I'd get the liquid dye instead. DONT use the SEM **** on the seats. Doesn't even hold up like it says it would.

Me and my friends use sem dye on carpet all the time, since were car dealers, and it works great and feels good but you have to take a nylon brush and run over it after every coat to keep it soft. You will have to touch it up some in heavy traffic spots though. We even have an ongoing joke because we were dyeing it at a car show once to touch up a few spots and some guy asked what we were doing and we told him it was just really good carpet cleaner.

I don't think you'll get much more out of this thread. It died 6 months ago. I suppose the only thing I would have to add is that I said screw it and bought new carpet along with $140 (no logo) Lloyd's luxe mats Both in black. The carpet is beautiful and the mats are the nicest things I've ever felt in automotive flooring. The total was around $400 for the carpet and mats.
Good luck, but like I said, don't expect too much info in this thread. Shoot me a PM if there is anything you think I might be helpful with.
