Just get a quality cover (I'd recommend silk or satin if they can afford it), and only cover it after a wash, and never after driving it.
Because, this car is my daily driver, so it's exposed to a ton of road/environmental contaminants and I like to keep the paint protected and looking nice, which is why I like to keep wax on it. Plus I've heard of and have seen other people who do it every 2 weeks with their daily drivers routinely and they look great.

But, I'm glad you told me otherwise because I was actually going to go out there tomorrow and do it, every 4 sounds good so I guess i'll start trying that. Also, I'll definitely do some research on the best silk or satin car covers and direct them towards one, thanks a bunch for your help man.

So you listen to the professional detailer on the car cover. But when he tells you that you're waxing the car too much, you don't believe him? You pick and choose what you want to believe.

It doesn't matter if your car is the DD or not. You don't put it on every two weeks, the old wax isn't that dirty, contaminated, or coming off after two weeks. You're just putting layer upon layer of wax on it. Not a good idea.

i just finished reading every single post in this thread. i think i'm ready to buy the "pc perfect starter kit" from autogeek. lots of great info here, and i'm not quite sure if my car needs 105 and 205 yet, but i'm guessing i'll be picking them up eventually with some LC orange pads. looks like i have a lot of reading to do and videos to watch.

one thing i didn't notice anybody asking.. is there a minimum temperature that you would not do any of this in? being that it's december, i just get bored haha.

thank you for putting in all the time you have.. i think i'm speaking for everybody when i say we are incredibly grateful.

If you lived in a northern state right now, you would understand. The snow and salt eats the wax right away pretty fast if you don't wash frequently.

Maybe I missed it but what type of wax are you using?

Maybe step up to a quality sealant/wax that will net better results such as BlackFire, Wolfgang Fuzion, etc.

I'm sure you've already answered this somewhere in the 30 pages of this thread but I am just curious what your recommendations would be for my black SS. The paint on the car is in amazing shape but has the typical swirl marks here and there from the previous owner, nothing crazy or anything but I would really like to get rid of them and I have all winter to address the issue Thanks ahead!

Well on my DD I use Wizards sealant, I love the stuff. It just seems like I have to wax more often in the winter than the other months.

I use Blackfire on my SS but I don't like how hard it is to remove it. Maybe I just didn't let it dry long enough last time. Once that bottle is used up I'm going to stick with Wizards- its durable, cheap ($15), makes the paint very slick and a little shinier, comes off very easy, and smells good .

I think you may be putting to much on or simply not letting dry long enuff. If you dont give it a proper cure time, it will smear. Your paint will basically have a faint effect like like you sprayed a lite coat of wd40 or something on a towel and smeared it all over your paint. Plus it will cake up in the towels while your wiping. Humidity is biggest thing ive found to effect cure times with blackfire, that and higher temps, typically over 85-90. Make sure your using a light uniform coats and give it enuff cure time and I think your opinions will change. Imo, blackfire is one the most user friendly sealants you can buy, other than Zaino.

To gauge cure times, stick a microfiber over the tip of your finger and swipe the paint in one small area. It should wipe completely off with little effort . If it smears at all, its not ready.

How long should you let the wax dry in a 70 deg room? I use #7 glaze and a #20 selant wax. Is blackfire good. And is black fire juat wax thats all you need? Or are there two different types of blackfire? Thanks Justin.

It was probably in the mid to upper 50 degrees when I used it. I'm thinking I didn't wait long enough. I would wax 1 panal, go to the next panal and wax, then go back to the previous panal and wipe off, then go to next panal and wax, and so on.

I guess I am used to using Wizards. It dries after only a minute of waiting.

I recently applied Collinite 845 insulator wax to my DD Saturn. After a couple of weeks of Chicago weather, I'm very impressed with the durability of the product. Would highly recommend it. I should note that I applied the wax in a heated 2 car garage. The temperature was around 70.

I have 1 coat of Menzerna power lock sealent and 2 coats of collinite 845. Should have no problem holding up through the winter.

Oh yea, definately not waiting long enough. On average, I will let the Blackfire cure for 2 hours. That time will vary both up and down with the humidity and temps.

I must say, I fell in love with Menzerna the minute I finished up with an 85RD session. Quality product for sure. I'll have to look into that sealant.

2 hours see that's just another reason I'll probably stay with Wizards once I use up my bottle of Blackfire. It's just so much easier, but I guess not as professional.
