Usually, the word "compound" is associated with a heavy cutting or abrasive type polish. What you would need is a light polish, not a compound. A compound is going to leave your paint looking like you buffed on it with a Hersey bar. A fine polish is going to finish down to a shine.

If it is plastic, it can buffed out but you have to be very careful an not melt the plastic. You want to use a machine like the PC-7424. Anything else will probably melt it pretty quick. Or, you could do it by hand. That'll take forever but you won't melt anything.

hey,
my black cts-v has alot of fine swirl marks visible with light. I plan to use Meguiars off the shelf ultimate series lineup, with a clay, compound, polish then wax. Now my question is, its the compound that takes out the scratches correct? Do i buff the compound on the car then wipe it with a microfibre towel and check with a light and if there is still swirls give it a 2nd pass then after inspecting with a light and if the swirls are gone then proceeding to the polish or should i concentrate with the polish more.

What you're describing needs machine polishing, by a professional. You might get 20% improvement doing that all by hand.

This thread could use a good clean up. Get all the information on as few a pages as possible. I like the idea of this thread that its here for answers to specific problems but its seems nearly impossible to sift through 47 pages to find what your looking for. Maybe someone could condense it a little or break it up in to a sticky page linked to single post.
Thanks for just throwing me under the bus and calling for a mod to overhaul my thread. This has already been addressed, but I guess you were too busy to bother reading that too?

This has me baffled. You have swirls in the rubber trim??? Post a high quality picture. This I have to see.

Yes you can, you just have to be careful with the type of polisher that you are using. I would not use a rotary because you could easily melt the plastic with one. You shouldn't need any type of aggressive polish either. Plastic is MUCH softer than clear coat.
