Default Painting Firebird fender vent covers

I want to paint the vent covers on my front fenders behind the wheels red. Has anyone done this before ? How does it turn out ? I am just a little worried I wont be able to get enough paint between all those little honeycombs and it will look crappy. What paint should I use and how should I prep it? I already washed them thoroughly with dish soap and dried them very thoroughly with clean towel and a hairdryer any help would be great!

Well I got impatient and bought some rust oleum plastic paint says it doesnt need any primer I hit it with 4 light coats about 20 minutes apart and its looking really good. Now I just have to wait for it to dry. I will post some pics tomorrow when I put them back in!

I did all my other accents red (like the formula on the doors the pontiac on the headlight and the firebird and pontiac on the rear bumper) so naturally these were red as well. I couldn't be happier with the way they turned out here are some pictures. My camera kinda blows outdoors so this is the best I've got for now.

Yea that thought crossed my mind too as soon as I looked at that picture and saw how much they clashed with the rest of the car

How exactly do those vents come out? I don't see any screws, so there must be something on the inside?

I just got some pliers grabbed them gently and pulled gently they pop right out much easier than you think. They are a little more difficult to put back in but they basically just snap in! Let me know if you decide to do the same thing I'd like to see how yours turn out!

when you take them out be careful of the clips they can break off.

To get the vents out, open your door, and pop them out from behind the fender. Opening the door gives you enough clearance to slip your hand through the back. You'll have to compress the clips so that you won't break any off.
