I was just wondering how good the tci was. I notice that everybody seems to stick with the yanks. I am in the market for a stall and the tci price is a little better for me due to having to pay for a install and a tune. Or should i just keep saving and get a yank. I am just a bolt on car and probally will be for a while so i am looking at about a 3600 stall.

do not let your budget choose your stall. the price differences are marginal enough. its not like they range from $200 to $6,000 or anything. do a search on here on tci converters.

thats prob all you'll need for a bolt on car.. i can one in my car for a couple years and way over powered it..but it work for what i could afford and got me 10 sec time slips. if ur in no rush to get a convertor it wouldnt be bad to save adn get look into yank or circle D..

The lockup clutches are pretty weak on the budget
TCIs, I liked the fluid aspects of my SF3000 but the
lockup eventually made me swap it out. But beware,
some higher priced converters' lockup clutches are
also not up to much torque (at least without trans
tune adjustments). The durability and drivability
aspects don't get much specification from the vendors
(sex sells) and it's on you to dig for it.

Im deffintly not looking for the cheapest product. I know that the tci makes good converters just didnt know how good they are in a 4l60 e ls1 car. I noticed that everybody pretty much runs the yanks or vigalantes. Is there any reoson no body really uses them. Just dont want to spend all that money and regret it and have to buy something different shortly after.

I have a TCI 3500..Love it havent had any problems. Every once in awhile it will unlock and ill have to turn the car off and then back on to have it lock back up. Not sure why but its w/e its only happend like 3 times within a year.
You are gonna love all the power though it feels like a completely different car with the converter

= TCI, lol.. They're "ok" for n/a, but if you ever plan on spraying, you can hang it up. Check out the pics in the first post of this thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...education.html
Yes TCI has a cheap clutch but i used them in the past and sprayed 300 through mine and never hurt it even went 100's of bottom 1.3 60ft and on top of that never burnt the cheap lock up clutch.
I have ran a yank converter and 3 times burnt the lock up clutch out and that converter couldnt get any where near the 1.32 60ft mark like my cheap TCI did.
I'm not telling you to buy a TCI because I wouldnt I'd buy a FTI
If you want the best out there call FTI, From there converters all the way down to there customer service you will not find anything better.

As far as the pics, i'm just validating what jetlag AND my tranny builder stated all along: 4cyl converter with an adapter and CHEAP parts. The pics shows viewers why their converters fail. Has TCI revised their converters since then? I don't know.
If the TCI you owned handled a 300 shot, how come you switch?

Lock-up clutch failure is the common problem with TCI. It seems like they don't upgrade from the cores they use for several models. I haven't heard about problems with other parts.
Having said that, I ran a SF3000 for three years in my car, DD with many trips to the track. No spray. Never a problem. My Yank 3600 has required tuning that was not needed with the TCI.

I ran my TCI 3500 for 2.5 years. N/A and probably 50 N20 runs. Never had a problem with it. I did upgrade last year to a Yank SS 4000. Neede a bigger stall for the Heads I put on. My choice to go with the TCI originally was budget related. No regrets here.
