Will I have to use a new converter? Considering just tossing in the core I found for now and rebuilding it once I pull the engine. That way i am not running a stall on a stock engine with potential seal leaks.

I have a 95 z28 im considering converting to the 80, im currently rebuilding the motor and dont want to have a gutless pig that is a 4l60e behind my power plant. But i dont see on pcmforless or on tunedbyfrost where it has a pcm tune for my year model. Would I need my pcm tuned or flashed to operate the 80? Its an obd1 car even tho it has the 16 pin obd2 port.

Search ebay for "4l80e dipstick". There are different Lokar models (e.g. silver and black) with links to the Summit website. Also some alternatives to consider.

Hi I'm Robert, I need help figuring out this stuff! I don't fool around with the ecm side of trucks and need to figure out how to do the segment swap as cheap as possible. I have a 97 chevy z71 with the 5.7 I put the 4l80e in and repinned the plug to work. Please let me know what needs to be done from here.
Thanks, Robert.
P.s. I do not have the tuner or whatever its called.

My donor engine/harness is a 2005 Tahoe 5.3. I am swapping to a 4L80 when it goes into the old truck (see profile pic). Are there certain years of the 4L80 that I need to be looking to buy?
I have the Speartech swap electronics on my list and the flexplate and spacer and all that. Just making sure i dont buy one too old or new that i cant use without serious modification to electronics.
Thanks!

I used the Flywheel from a 2500 has burner 4.8 to 6.0 it had the spacer built in. I also used the stock converter for now worked fine and a cheap route to go.
If im not mistaken you can buy a 4l80e converter and run a crank spacer so the LS1 flexplate will work. You will only use three of mounting points like the LS1 does though. Either way you will have to buy a converter so why not buy one thats made to fit. The 4l60e converter will NOT fit the 4l80e. The input shafts are different.
I am not running a spacer.
You shouldnt need the wiring harness from speartech, at least not all of it. The 4l80e has two VSS sensors so in order to get the speedo to work you should only need the VSS sensor harness from them. The rest should be done with the TCI controller.

1) what pins do the 2 additional vss wires need to go to in the black box pcm?
2) can black box pcm be flashed for 4l80 program?

So, I have a 2005 2wd CCSB that I swapped in a 2005 LQ4 and a rebuilt 60e.
I just ran across a 2003 2500 2wd Van with a 6.0 80e and a Dana 60 rear running & driving for stupid cheap.
I have had future plans to swap in an 80e.
I have read all the swap threads and understand the wiring needed.
Would it be advantageous to take the ECM or any other computer out of the van and use it in my truck for the 80e swap?
I would think so, so there is no need to change files into my computer, but I never hear anyone talk about it.
Thanks in advance!
