Yes, there is a Boss 302R in the works that will use a version of this new motor as well, it's an 'off road/race track only' vehicle of course but it's still pretty cool.

As for aftermarket, we all know the potential of the lsx motors....i am anxiously waiting to see what the 5.0 is capable of. Once you start modding, everything changes....looks like the fun factor just went up a notch!!
i agree!

there WAS a smokey and the bandit 3.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMqqb9_S9AY

as for the legend of jackie gleason playing both roles, i'm pretty sure i found solid proof it was true. here is a pic of jackie gleason dressed up as the bandit i found on google.

and here is a screenshot i actually captured from my smokey and the bandit "pursuit pack" DVD which includes smokey and the bandit 3. that person driving the car is clearly not jerry reed nor is it someone meant to look like reed. it's either gleason or someone supposed to double him.

well if you wanna get technical......there were 4 movies in the mid 90s that were made by the same people who did S&B and they were called bandit. one interesting note. one charactor who actually had a bit part in the original S&B (but a much larger part in the dukes of hazzard) stars as a sheriff in one of the films, John Schneider. The director was Hall Needham who directed the original smokey and the bandit. Brian Bloom played the bandit and drove a black Dodge Stealth RT/TT. Ironicically in the "bandit: bandit bandit" one which schneider is in, his (schneider's) charactor is named Sheriff Buford Enright. Something tells me the name Buford was no coincidence, lol.

Fords problem is, they cant get that power to the ground. so its pointless. i dont see a ~130 hp less car beating the camaro if the gt500 barely does... just MY OPINION however..
You're talking about a heavier car pushing way more power though. 540 horsies of PD blower power pushed out thru a manual gearbox on mere 285 series street tires is never gonna hook up the way one would want it to. Plus the Shelby has a disadvantage in it being so nose heavy (a problem it does not share with the GT model). It is not just a Ford thing. The 5.0 GT will be lighter, better balanced, and it will be NA (lacking those gobs of torque that hit instantly at less than 4K rpms). I think it'll put up some great times.

And FWIW, the newest Shelby is damn fast with a proper set of radials on. Biggest reason for a slow run in a powerful car like that is lack of traction.

Thats the point, Ford made a car with a lot of horsepower that is heavy STOCK. That video is them in their stock forms and the Camaro barely lost. The point was to show that Ford made a vehicle that can't hook up off the line and henceforth was pulling off crappy 0-60 times and such. So regarding the weight of the new GT, they are giving it about 412 horsepower and depending on the weight they need to put some sticky tires on there than they have previously to get traction. If they don't put some better tires on there its going to be the same story and then everyone throws the "well if you put radials on it". We aren't talking about radials, but stock tires/wheels. So you can't just throw "well if it had radials on it" comment in there. STOCK

There was an earlier post that said mods change everything. Either way the video stated this plainly. Either way, there is still something to be said about a car that costs 15K less and barely lost. Imagine 15K into a new SS!!!!

The 2010 GT has gone on record of pulling sub 5 second 0-60 times with several test mags..........and that's with a measely 315 hp. Doesn't sound like a problem in hooking up to me. And you completely missed my whole point about comparing the launching advantages/disadvantages of PD blown cars vs NA cars. Obviously there's one of those categories you have no experience with. And lest I remind you: GM is the one here that built a new, more powerful ponycar that can't really even out accelerate its 10 year old predecessor (despite the extra 70+hp). Ford isn't the only one producing bloated pigs anymore, are they?

I stand by my assessment.........using ricer math to say that the 2011 GT won't be a match for the new Camaro because the GT500 (with its extra 130hp) had a hard time out-launching it is..........ignorant at best and retarded at worst.

Right, but think about this. The 5.0 will be the new GT right? So just as the Vette sees the new suspension technology and goodies before the Camaro, isn't it right to assume they will use something based off of that setup from the Shelby?

Yea, like the better control arms, shocks, and bigger brakes. GT will not, however, inherit the GT500's supercharged iron block 5.4. As I said before, the Shelby's biggest issue is being nose heavy and overpowered for the tires it wears from the factory. The GT shouldn't suffer these ailments. Unless you think that a 3600 lb 412hp car is harder to launch than a 3900 lb 540hp car.

so what your still trying to say is that the new GT will outperform the GT500 stock trim? doubtful...

BARELY... and i said im not worried that the new GT will. but he somehow thinks it will, idk. i dont really like his argument. you dont see z06s having problems shooting to 60 in 3.7 seconds. or the ls3 corvette doing it in 4.1... yet for some reason, the gt500 cant. its because ford didnt do a very good job at getting the power to the ground, period. and they will continue to have that problem... this is all MY OPINION tho

To be honest, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if the new GT is damn near as fast as the GT500. Car's gonna be lighter, and better balanced like said above.

Probably see the GT going around 12.7 @ about 112, that's my guess.. so we're really within tenth's
