In short.........yes, the new Shelby is fairly heavy and is not properly shoed by Ford from the factory. I merely pointed out that that's something that is easily fixed with a proper set of aftermarket radials. And none of this has anything to do with the upcoming 5.0 GT.......outside of the ill-conceived formula for figuring out how well it will perform against the new SS by looking at how well the GT500 performs.
My head is starting to hurt........none of this is rocket science fellas.

Argggh. Look, if all you're talking about when you speak of "performance" is acceleration from a dead stop to, say, 60 mph.......then yea, the Shelby probably won't be drastically far ahead of the new GT or SS. The Shelby weighs over 3900 lbs, has alot of weight in the nose from the iron block 5.4, sits on 285 street tires, and is trying to push 540 hp to the asphalt without slipping. Take a new SS, slap a twin screw on the thing, push the power up to 550 hp, and then try launching it on the same tires it came with from the factory. How much you wanna bet it barely pulls away from a stock SS in a 0-60mph run? Why? More power equals more tire spin. The Vette doesn't suffer this problem as much because it's a much lighter car (2900-3100 lbs). Although......it's no sure thing. I've seen my fair share of C6 Vette's pulling 13-14 second slips at the track. Why? Again............spinning on the launch. You want to look at potential......you look at the trap speeds.

Well, like said previously........all bets are off once you bring mods into the equation. So it's best not to go down that road. Anyone can make anything fast with the right work done. That goes for whether you're talking about a Mustang or a Camaro. Plus we still don't know how the new 5.0 will take to mods......although I'm sure a full bolt-on, geared M6 car with proper radials will be quite a healthy animal.
My point is that I think the new GT will be a pretty good match for the Camaro. It should be interesting.

Because in 40+ year Ford has never made a fast car? Or cars faster than GM built ones?
In 99-04 the GTs were slower than Camaros/WS6 etc, but they were ALSO cheaper.
Even to this day you can get a low mile NewEdge GT for far less than a low mile WS6 or Z28. I looked for almost 2 years for one as cheap. I could find a lot of GTs with less than 10k miles for 10k or less. I couldn't find a TransAm or Z28 with less than 10k miles for less than 17k. And even then it was in less then perfect condition. So I'd hope a car that cost more has more performance. Even the 2011 GT will cost less than a new camaro. Probably why Ford sells more Mustangs. The 03/04 Mach1 was closer to the prices of the LS1 fbodies. And it pretty much matched one in performance too.
For the 7-10k I saved, I surely could get my car faster than a LS1fbody if I wanted. Just like one will be able to buy a 2011 GT for cheaper than a new Camaro, and will be able to take the money they saved, and make a faster car.
If money is a concern that is. If money isn't a concern I'd buy a Vette over both of them.

We could go for days, but when it arrives I want to see real numbers...

The Mustang already comes with 31 spline axles and diff. Thats where the Ford already has the advantage. An auto with a stall with 410 gears (5 s-speed auto), a good tune and lts. It would be a nice daily driver that should go low 12's with radials of course. Way less expensive to make it run deep in the 12's than a new Camaro.

2010 SS 30,945
2010 GT 29,245
Savings 1,700
If I was in the market I would spend the 1700 and get an ss camaro. I don't see how the 2011 GT will be much cheaper. I'm expecting an increase in price.

A snip from an article."The Camaro was on the market for nine months in 2009, and just barely missed outselling perennial class leader Mustang's sales after a full 12 months"
I wouldn't start bashing the 2010 camaro on sales. The camaro did outsell the mustang in at least 3 months also.
