Wait a minute? Stock suspension and tranny?

Hmp. THAT won't make many passes before needing service.

Are the tires stock too? I think there's a few mods missing from that list.

I saw the car in person and it is very impressive. It made numerous runs at LoneStar Raceway all low 10's or better at 142+ mph.

Frank and Mike (the car owners) are cool guys. I actually clean the car for them. Its going to be at my booth at a car show this year.

The same owner of the GTR also owns a cammed C6 Z06.

Heres some pics I took of it back in the day before it went to AMS.

Heres their C6 Z too.

Yes, there are a few mods missing.
Neither the trans nor the tires are bone stock...it has some transmission upgrades done including a new first gear I believe and it ran on drag radials (mounted on lighter wheels?).

The transmissions were failing mainly because of the old launch-control software dropping from too high an RPM I believe. The re-flashed ones aren't having that problem.

Was. Nissan now sells new replacement trannys for $8200. Still quite a bit...but a lot less then the original $20K.

Also the failures are really few and far between.....not anymore common then any other high performance car. With the newer software they really havnt had any issues...

That's not too bad for such an electronically high tech/multi gear piece, much more reasonable.

Yeah now they are selling them for twice what they are worth, instead of 6x.

How many GT-Rs are actually out there? There really can't be too many failures because there aren't many of these cars on the road.

Good point...for all of the hype, price gouging and talk of limited production that surrounded this car in the very beginning, a year+ later I'm still seeing the same ones inside of Nissan showrooms when I drive by.

The tranny is essentially the same one used in the Bugatti Veryron...I don't think Nissan is overcharging for it...its one of the fastest shifting gear boxes in any production car in the world.

Not sure on world wide sales but in the US as of March 1st 2010 the total was 3,402.

Car rolls out hard. I believe one of the higher HP GTRs (in the mid 7xx) had issues with the trans after the first hard pass.

Even with its issues, it was still trapping in the 130s.

That wasn't a comment about "overcharging". These days everything costs way too much. Nissan simply realized that charging $20k plus for the transmission was only going to result in lawsuits, especially since it just happens to be the weak link in the car. So they did what they really had to do, drop the price to something more reasonable. Whatever they lost in markup profit was replaced by not having millions in settlements and court costs.

I saw one today, in Palm Beach. That makes the grand total that i've seen on the road EVER tick up one to an astonishing 3. That is saying alot since i've spent 10 of the last 14 months in NYC, DC, Miami, LA, and Detroit.

It's not that i'm surprised, Nissan can't expect to sell alot of these tech-shows, nor can they expect them to remain relevant to produce...history has shown that every single car of this type lasts 3-5 years and then gets discontinued. It's the sacrificial lamb that lends a test-bed to relevant future tech. A necessary entity, but a nightmare in the end for the manufacturer.

The problem wasnt the trannies themselves, it was launch control. I think it has been addressed and solved, and i dont mean like Toyota. I think that body kit is very bad ***, a very clean extension of the stock lines into a more exotic attire, if this were facebook id hit "like"

I've seen a ton around Chicago too. As far as imports go, they're pretty cool. I still like the R34's better.
