Camaro was $4k cheaper as tested. That's a pricey mustang. I guess they finally had to pay to play. But 12.7 from motortrend is like 12.3 for a good driver. Thats movin out. I'm glad Ford stepped it up, cause it encourages rivalry, and thats how the 70's muscle cars came to be.

I agree.

Very true, this is all heating up just like it did back in the late '60s/early '70s (except that the cars handle/stop SUBSTANTIALLY better and are far more fuel efficient ) and I simply cannot believe that we're all privileged enough to be a part of yet another 'golden era' of high performance American muscle cars.
This is great stuff.

Just like in the '80s and '90s. They will always pick the new Mustang.

Gotta love competition!

I see a 5.0 and the z28(if it happens) in my future.

I guess someone realized how ugly it would have been if they'd brought an R/T Chally to this fight. Dodge needs to inject its mid level model with some of the SRT8's genes......at least as a performance option if nothing else. Ah well, the Challenger sells mostly on looks anyways.

Waiting to see how the other mags' 3-way comparos go.

That is what I'm wondering too. Hopefully we will find out soon. I knew MotorTrend would give #1 to the Mustang (since it's new) but I wasn't expecting #2 for the SRT and #3 for the SS. I don't ever remember them placing the SRT in front of the SS. What's different about this time? Whether we want to admit it or not, Ford now has the momentum in the American muscle cars wars. Ford has responded to the intoduction of the Challenger and Camaro. I think this is a good thing though because it just forces rival car companies to introduce better things every year. Who knows, maybe some day the Mustang and Camaro will be running low 12's from the factory.

Isn't motortrend the one that gave "looks angry" on the cons list for the Camaro? or was that C&D?

rumor: 2011 is suppose to be the return of the z28, supercharged, and about 8K more than the SS.

I cant see writing a magazine, reviewings cars of different years.. lame

Interesting. Figured as much with the results, though. I'd like to see what the Camaro could do with a set of 3:73 gears. Seems like it's down a bit in the gearing department, especially against the mustang's ridiculously short gearing. I'm gonna be they either up the power a bit or add an optional gearing to the next gen Camaros to match it.

One thing I did notice though:

Camaro:
13.1 sec @ 110.8 mph

Mustang:
12.7 sec @ 111.3 mph

Seems like the Camaro is catching up at the top end. I'd like to see who'd win in a longer race. Mustang has more acceleration, but the Camaro has more top end. Seems like they'd be pretty equal cars if the Camaro could match the gearing.

As for the price, keep in mind the Mustang has the optional everything. Glass roof, interior. Everything. That's a huge price addition.

I can't wait for the 2011 SS specs. Chevy has to do something. Well then again maybe not because hasn't the Camaro been outselling the 'Stang this last year anyway and that's all I care about because I don't want these to go away again! Keep the rivaly alive!!!!!!!!

111.3mph vs. 110.8mph means the Mustang is running away from the Camaro, not "the Camaro is catching at on the top end" lol.

The Camaro needs a 4.10 option to get back out in front imo.

...or shorter diameter wheels/tires, or both.

Yes but keep in mind that the Camaro, a brand new ground up design, was merely outselling a car that's basically 5 years old already. If sales are even remotely close at the close of the 2010 model year (not sure if they will be) I can only imagine that the Mustang might close the gap a lot in 2011 with these new V6s and V8s. Though the general 'non peformance oriented' buying public might not even care about that part and they'll just go for the cheaper, leftover 2010 Mustangs anyway.
