Default Keyless entry

Is there anywhere I can buy a new keyless entry remote that isn't the dealership and doesn't cost 96 bucks? Can these be programmer by the average Joe w/out GM software?

I'd highly doubt it, wouldn't that allow people to program a remote to a car that isn't theirs?

I believe it is a procedure that has to do with cycling the key and such so theft would not be a concern. Regarding the specific procedure for the V I do not know. As far as sourcing the remote I have picked up spares in the past for other vehicles of Ebay and have had no issues at all programming them.

Try eBay or something and take it to the dealer to have it programmed.

Yea like the older gms like camaros for instance it was just a series of holding the new remote button while doin a sequence with the key and the inside lock button. U have to b in the car at least and have a key to do it. But I heard new gms require a software download to make it work I just dnt kno how new. 05?

I was having a problem with my FOB the other day. I took it apart, and bent all the prongs that touch the battery out to where they would make contact a little better. Works 100x better now. It seems like they got lazy and were not making good contact anymore. It got to where I had to push the buttons REALLY hard to get it to work, and by doing that I was just forcing the battery to make contact.

ah I didn't know that, I figured it was something to do with using the VIN number to figure out how to program it. then again I don't really have the first clue how any of that stuff works.

*edit* I mentioned VIN number because when I lost my key FOB and got a replacement from the dealer they asked for my VIN number, so I just figured it had to do with programming it.

To program transmitters:

Install a scan tool.
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Use the scan tool menu Body, RCDLR, Module Setup, Program Key Fobs in order to access transmitter programming.
Follow the directions on the scan tool in order to program the transmitters.
Operate the transmitter functions of each transmitter in order to verify correct system operation.

You need a TECH2 or other scanner that can do body functions.

Transmitters retail for $87.72. 12223132 fob # 1 12223134 fob # 2

Is there any way to do this without a scan tool?

I bought my 2nd key fob for 30$ shipped on Ebay. I bought the car with only 1 key fob. (1 on back) The one I got in the mail was the one with 2 on the back.
