Default What exactly comes in the package when buying an MSD 6010?

If I bought a Edelbrock Performer RPM intake by it self, and a MSD 6010, does the MSD come with the harness like the Edlebrock MSD box does?

Yes, it comes with the complete harness. I talked to MSD directally about this very subject. They sell a harness that is listed as an extension harness, but its actually an ENTIRE new longer harness. I have been told by other TECH members that the standard harness is good for most all of your needs. Hope this helps. Eric L

Thanks a lot guy. Yes that is HUGE help. You know, MSD should list what all comes with their product.

All they show is the picture of the box. And it has a couple of links at the bottom of the page for a harness extension and data cable which are purchased seperatly

Ok, reading this basically tells you you dont need to buy anything else.

This compact ignition controller is fit with matching factory connectors for a direct installation. Only a handful of connections are required; the coils, crank sensor, MAP sensor and the cam sensor. This Controller also allows you to map a timing advance curve with MSD s easy-to-use Pro-Data+ software. Other features that you can set include a two step rev limiter, a vacuum advance curve for cruising economy and even a step retard in case you want to add a little nitrous to the mix.

Cool. Thanks. Hey, do you know what MAP sensor is used? Or does the MSD 6010 come with one? My MAP sensor for the composit intake just pushes in with a rubber plug.

They use a standard GM map sensor. I grabed one with rubber plug off a 3.8L Pontiac then hooked it to the carb with 4 inches of rubber hose.

I do have the one that came off the efi intake. It has the rubber plug on it. I wasent sure if I could just hook a vacume line up to it and then to the carb or intake port. But I see where people are doing that.

If you want to download the software and check it out, MSD has it available on their website. Eric L

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the harness that is mentioned as an option is actually an extension. My understanding is that it is made specifically to mount the box on the intake manifold.

I talked to MSD directally and that is what they told me. That it is an extension harness to extend the harness from the bottom of the motor (I.E. the cam sensor on a LS2 and the Crank sensor by the pan rail). Other TECH members have told me that the stock harness is more than enough to get almost wherever you want to go. Some guys are even mounting them in their glove boxes on smaller cars. Hope this helps, Eric L
