Default 5.3 teardown/build

I just picked up my 5.3 for my ford ranger yesterday. I was getting ready to put it on the stand to tear it down for a rebuild, when i encountered a problem. The 5.3 block is missing a hole, not drilled or tapped. This is normally where i mount my stand on SBC engines.

What holes in the block are you guys using? I already have the bolts, just unsure which holes on the block to use to mount it secure.

I use all 4 that are at the dowel area. Hell, most use them in the cars as well and not the 5th one if they use a older Trans.

They are great engines. I will never build a small block gen I again. Kind of dislike them now days. Never want to play with a distributor again. Lol

Yeah i have a gen 1, 1970 350 LT1 sitting in the garage that i considered using in the Ranger, but i wanted something different. Out of the box, the LS based engines seem to have more to offer. Instant power without spending 2k of AFR heads.

I plan on building a 408 later, but i gotta make this thing fit in the Ranger. I'm not sure what year the 5.3 is, came from a shop that pulled it from a wrecked truck, they couldn't remember what year it was, but at $125, i couldn't go wrong. I'm guessing it's an earlier engine, 862 heads and has an EGR valve.

Black crank sensor is 6010 box and the headers for a 302 swap can just swap flanges.

Really, 302 headers have same port spacing? If that's the case this will make the swap a whole lot easier, i was planning on fabbing headers.

Yep. A Chevy LS into a ford is pretty much cheating. Lol
