Default Alternator wiring

i have the stock alternator off my lq9. I do not have the pig tale so I will have to go and buy that. But once I obtain it do I just need the one wire hooked up to a 12 source to get the alternator to work?

I used a Blazer alternator it had 1 wire coming from the pigtail which i simply hooked up to the dash wire that went to the old Delco alternator..

and obviously you have the one big wire that goes from the alt. to the battery..

Simple as that

yeah. Does it matter which 12v source the small wire goes to? as long as its an ignition on source?

i dont think that small wire goes to a 12v source...its like the dummi light wire from your dash. I think a resistor should be in line with that wire if you dont have the actual dummi light....Thats for the alt to charge. pretty sure thats how it goes!

If I understand it correctally that wire should go to a SWITCHED 12 volt source. With either a resistor in line or a dummy light like previously stated. Hope this helps, Eric L

Default Painless wiring 30705 pigtail.

Painless wiring (pt# 30705) makes the pigtail kit, probably Summit and Jegs too. Atached link brings you to their directions which illustrates the proper connections including the resistor needed if you don't use the dummy light.

Now I just need to figure out what wire goes to the dummy light. It's still now quit clear. Ahhh... I hate wires... lol

If your looking at the alternator side of the plug it would be the 2nd wire from the left I believe. Eric L

The brown wire is the one that you put the resistor on in a factory plug. Eric L

alright I got the pig tail and resistor. And all I have to do is connect the resistor to wire B and then to a 12v source? I don't have to connect wire C to a 12v ignition as well?

Depends on the alternator. Try it with the one wire, and if it dosent charge than connect the other one also. And it needs to be a 12volt source thats hot only when the key is on. Hope this helps, Eric L
