Default Please Help! Jeep Grand Cherokee steering box swap on a-body

Hey guys I purchased a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee box for my swap. Everything bolted up fine, but when I went to install my pitman arm onto the new box it will not even come close to fitting. The splines on the new box are approx 30mm and my old box is around 27mm. Is an a-body power steering pitman arm different then a manual arm? I'm trying to swap from my old manual steering box to the jeep power steering box.

Anyone else run into this issue?

Did some more research and sure enough the manual box has a smaller splined pitman arm. Looks like more **** to buy!

Yes the power and manual pitman arms are different, you need the power steering

I am pretty sure I have one laying around, you pay shipping and its yours.

Is it for 64-67? I'll take it for sure.

Have you checked on chevelles.com? I can't recall but I thought you use your stock pitman arm. I didn't read up there's a difference on arms, now I know.

Yeah you use your stock pitman arm if your swapping a power box for a power box I guess. I had no clue the manual box was a different size spline. Oh well, learn more every day. LOL

Well I picked up a "power steering" pitman arm today and found out more info.

FYI for anyone wanting to do this swap.
The power steering pitman arm is larger on BOTH ends which means it will not work with the manual steering drag link either. This has turned into a much larger project then it was supposed to. LOL

The guy I got the pitman arm from also had the power steering drag link so I got them both. Hopefully I now have all the parts I need.

Call me crazy, but if your going through all the trouble of swapping boxes, why use a used and probably semi or fully wore out drag link? Sounds like another reason to complain in the future, your not happy with how it steers, or feels. JMHO
