The QA1 Tubular K is only like $220 on eBay
QA1 Motorsports/HAL Shocks K-Member offers weight savings of up to 28 lbs. when compared to factory k-members. Designed from the ground up with improved anti-dive, ackerman angle, and bump steer, our K-Members are a direct bolt-on swap, complete with motor mount pads. All factory mounting points have been digitally indexed off of factory new K-members. Knowing that 5.0 and 4.6 Mustang owners will make many different modifications, this
K-Member is capable of accepting just about anything. The spring perches for factory style spring use is a bolt-on option. Header and oil pan clearances are taken into consideration. Steering geometry is improved for maximum performance. Use of stock lower control arms or tubular control arms are also an option for the owner. All of this together makes the QA1/HAL K-Member the most accurate and versatile in the industry. Please specify 79 - 95 or 96 and later after you purchase .

THIS IS WHAT I'LL BE USING....

How strong are the aftermarket K-members for daily driving uses that are made for the Mustangs?

Do they have the issues like the F-body versions of cracking, breaking with daily driving use?

Not sure. I don't have any experience with any aftermarket Mustang K members. I'm sure every company has their issues. My want to ask the guys over at www.corral.net

I was searching the same thing on Corral.net. It looked like the road racers would only run a Griggs or Maximum Motorsports.

I used a '96 up, QA1 tubular 4.6 K-member in my '82 Fox Mustang/LS1 conversion without issue. I made my own solid mounts, which was very easy to do. I know others using conversion plates with the stock Fox motor mounts. It seems like the Cobra mounts, with modification, would work - IMO.

Nice meeting you yesterday Marcus, and keep me posted on your progress!

Oh, and to any purist slamming him for doing this. Just think if you could knock off 200 lbs(probably), with blower, from your Cobra - and still make the same power or more - for WAY less money - wouldn't you do it?

I ran a UPR Chrome-moly tubular K-member in my 99 Cobra for almost a year of street driving (~15,000 miles). Never had any issues. The only reason I took it out was because I wanted to run F/S again, and had to have a stock K-member per the rules.

Oh - neat car and neat idea!

This thread is getting around the Web! Not many people are very receptive towards it. I think it is an awesome project.

Anybody know where I can find an sn95 rolling chassis?
I am looking for a new project.

**** em.
Its his car, if they put a 03 cobra motor in a Z28 all the Fbodys would scream foul!, and the svt guys would love the hell out of it.

Bottom line if you have a car you can improve on from what the factory should have built, do it, fast is fast.

I just gotta say, kudos to Mystic96! I have a '96 v6 stang I'm gonna do this swap. Even ford must have known better, that why they designed the motor mounts for a real engine............GO LS1!!! However the 4.6 dohc does make a nice planter for the flower garden.....lol

Coming along great man!

For those asking about the Foxbody... http://www.ajeracing.com/mustang.htm There's also someone, might be AJE, that has a 4.6 swap K for the Foxbody, so then you'd be able to modify the motor mounts for the 4.6 just like this guy here is doing.

Can't wait to see how it turns out!
