Default which coil packs for thirdgen ls1 swap?

The speartech run-through for a thirdgen ls1 swap uses truck coil packs because the stock ls1 packs hit the a/c box. Anybody else experience this?

If you just relocated the coil packs you wont have a problem.

Car Tech says the round truck coils are the best ones.

I had no problem whatsoever using the stock '98 coils on mine.

The 98's with individual mounting don't have a problem. The swap crossmembers usually adjust the engine just a hair to clear too. Even with 99+ and the stock crossmember it still seems hit or miss. I would suggest plopping her in and then seeing if you need new ones.

worse case, one coil has to be moved 1/4" up... its not worth the money (IMO) to change coils..

All i have is the short block and the hawks conversion mounts. So I could go any direction for coils. The truck ones are supposed to have a higher output right? Id go msd but those are a bit pricey for my budget.

From what I've read the MSDs are practically the same as OEM with a different color and their name on them, and definitly not worth the outragous price

one of the wonderful things about the genIII and the genIV engines is that they dont need ignition upgrades.

any coil pack route you take will still have a very hot spark, capable of getting ya to the single digits...

as for the clearance "problem" 30seconds with a dremel on the oversize lip of the AC box fixes it. no worries. i wouldnt let that decide how to spend your money.

MSD coils are easy to come by for dirt cheap! Mine cost me a $5 can of red spraypaint and a $3 roll of masking tape. I havent found MSD stickers yet, but I'm still looking.

dude it's prolly easy to get some from MSD or just get some made. I love that kind of ghetto fab stuff kills me most people prolly won't even know when you are done AND you saved yourself like $700. Nice work.

Yeah, I got two little ones with my MSD 8.5 wires, maybe I should just buy 3 more packs of wires as spares and steal their stickers.
