Default Going carbed on LS1 INSIDE PLEASE!!!!!!

Ok, My plan has been to swap an LS1 6spd into an old muscle car preferably a 70-72 Corvette or a 70-73 Firebird turned Trans Am, or Camaro. The car would be my nice weather daliy driver and to and from work is 80 miles round trip highway. However up till now that idea has seemed not possible inorder to fit it in my budget. I dont wanna have to buy another 4th gen Camaro or C4 Corvette! If going carb does what I think it does then it changes everything, so here are my questions.

1. Does a carb on an LS1 use a mechanical or electronic fuel pump?

2. Does it still need a wiring harness and computer or does that little MSD or Edelbrock box take care of everything? What about all of the sensors?

3. Is the engine still going to be as fuel efficient as it is now or realitively close?

4. Overall what was your total cost (ball park if you can't remember) not including purchase of the engine or transmission?

Any additional info is greatly appreciated.

Thank you guys so much! I just sold my 69 Camaro SS as it was too nice of a show car nor was it set up to be a pro-tour'd driver. I want to do like I said above and avoid having to "settle" for another 4th gen as I've owned 3 of them already. Thanks in advance!

2. little MSD box takes care of everything.

3. ?? no firsthand experience..

3. It shouldnt differ if it is tuned right.

4. My friend paid 2500. for comlete ls1 engine and tranny w/ 19k miles on it, unless you come across all the price gougers out there asking $4k for everything.. for the price some of these people are asking for stuff, you could throw in a grand more and have a complete nice complete car.

you could always go 5.3 or 6.0, they are way cheaper. I paid $500 for my complete 5.3

If ya want to do the carb thing, I have a new in the box set up from edelbrock. I bought it, then found a Vortech supercharger for cheap, and then went and bought a GM perf single plane, and don't really need it. I AINT GONNA GIVE IT AWAY, but i will make some one a good deal!

I had a carbed 370 ls1 in my 83 bonbneville and it haulled ***. edlebrock setup is so easy to hook up... it has a constant power, ignition source and ground, plug in all harnesses and give it fuel. it seems to make more power carbed than it did when it was injected but havent had it dyno'd w/ carb set up cause trans went out within a few days of abuse. i highly reccommend going carbed especially in an already carbed application not only cause of the simplicity but because it seems to make more power.
