My friend is always wanting to know about conversions and he always likes advice and he was wondering out of these which would be the best motor for a 3rd gen camaro swap.

That dependes on your definition of best. The LS2 would probably make the most power, the LS1 will probably be the easiest of the LSx motors to swap in, the LQ9 should be cheaper to buy than both of them but will weigh more. The BBC will offer the most performance per dollar but won`t be smog legal or as nice to drive if he drives it all the time. I need more info on his intentions for the car in order to pick one.

I think it depends on several things. One is the fuel injection. If this is required, then the economical way would be to get a complete LS1, LS2, or LQ9 because they already have it and aftermaket EFI gets pricey on engines not already equipped. Second is what trans do you want. If you want a manual overdrive, get and LS1 or LS2 because dropouts already include alot of the parts for the swap that are known to work well together. You want auto, then take your pic.
You see what im getting at. If I didnt want EFI or overdrive, BBC would be my choice cause you can throw a Th350-400 at it. Figure out what you want, then figure out how much you can spend.

Ls1 just due to the fact that you can get a complete pull out with a t56 and harness for under 4,000 bucks. And the fact that it is all aluminum is nice. LQ9 is heavy and bbc is real heavy.

I just bought a 5.3 (pan to intake) for $450 on ebay the other day. It included everything wiring, injectors and acc's. So I think for the money and what you get you cant go wrong with that route.
