Default Clutch Swap?

Cost of a clutch swap? What would I be looking at cost wise for a clutch swap in a vette? I am out of the F-body and looking to move to a C5 but worried about cost of future clutch swaps..

if your mechanically gifted at all... try to do it yourself and save big $$$

probably looking anywhere between $1k~$2.5k depending on parts and labor

My clutch cost about $600 (Spec III+) and $1500 for the labor. I would love to learn to do it myself and I will as soon as I get enough time on my hands.

There are two local shops here in NC that only charge 400-450 + parts for clutch swaps in C5/C6 vettes.

called one shop by me. They wanted $450 to do the clutch swap. that is not including parts and the car with stock exhaust on it. extra hour for headers on top of that.
this shop basically is dedicated to corvettes and do lots of them. heard they do great work. always busy.

Yeah they do great work and build some of the fastest LSX powered cars around here, BTW the owner is Nick Williams, the famous throttle body porter himself and also Tick Performance, a sight sponsor does them for that price as well!

just keep in mind if you have headers, plan on the price being more because they have to be unbolted to remove the torque tube. i am going to have the sad reality of doing a clutch probably sometime in the next 8 months. wish my ls6 would hold up, but i dunno with the new cam and the planned 125 nitrous shot.

yep, shop told me an extra 1 hour for sure. although I will pull the headers off the car beofre i take it to them. Going to put a set of heads on while the headers are off anyways. kill two birds with one stone.

I just hope mine holds up to just a big cam.

Holy ****! For that kind of money I wouldn't do my own clutch again. That's dirt cheap bro.

Its not a hard job at all if you have the right tools and the time. took me about 16 hours the first time I did in on my garage floor with jackstands. Most of that time was spent figuring how to get the input shaft to drop into the pilot bearing, after I discovered a neat little trick it got much quicker.

I've only done it 5 times so far but I have it down to a science now, start to finish it takes me about 6 hours now to replace a clutch in a C5 with LT's. Thats working off jackstands on my garage floor, using a torque wrench on every bolt and lock-tite where applicable. If I had a lift I think I could do it in under 6 hours, it takes me a good 45 minutes to an hour just to get the car in the air high enough and positioned right.

I'll be doing it all over again when the weather breaks but I plan to have someone take photos to document everything so I can put a nice little DIY together.

Wow only 6 hours. That would be great if you could document and post pictures of that. I wish I had a lift too. Maybe it would be something you could get on ls1howto. Thanks

Got it done here in Dallas for $400.00 worth of labor. Definitely not worth doing it myself for that price!

Ive done it before, with a simple clutch swap it would take between 6-8 hours, then again I have a friend with a lift. Typical shop around here is $6-800 labor, so not too bad either way.
